Maybe we can all come together now and have a moment of silence for Geoff, who, gave much to the art that we all love.

I'm especially sad knowing he had a 6 yr. old daughter. That kind of thing is hard to think about when you have kids of your own.
Rest in Peace Geoff. Cop-Sil-Brass will live on if I can help it! I loved the thinking behind that trick.

Geoff was a good guy, never forget the time he spent with me a couple years back at WMS working on one of his moves I was having trouble with. Going to be missed.

Just got a call from a dear friend in magic from here in NYC-- sad news. I'll be attending this memorial on Monday. I encourage all who are in the vacinity to do so. My thoughts go out to the family.
Regards, Matt Wayne

I constantly use his Nowhere palm in a lot of my coin magic. It is one of the most clever ways to conceal a coin. He will be missed. I can't wait until Stephen Minch is done writing his book.

I met Geoff when I was 15 years old hanging out at Tannen's. We were never close, but he always had something new to to show me and was willing to help when asked. I use his Ultimate Hang Ping Chien handling in every show I do.

Thanks to all for your words of support. The NY Coin guys will be including a special GEoff Latta memorial card to all who place an order on our website, and will send out an e card to all who have already bought our new DVD set. We hope it will help to remember a good friend, and great magician.

We are passing along memorial cards as a tribute to Geoff...and just to be clear, they are not mass cards. And as far as the money is concerned...not that it is yours or anybody else's business...but Geoff's percentage of sales will be sent to his daughter Vivica! Geoff was a wonderful friend to all that took magic seriously...this thread is about remembering Geoff...not about childish bickering!!! Let's take the crap to another post please!!!

Very sad news indeed.
Could the close friends of Geoff here let us know more about this monumental figure of the nyc magic scene as a person and magician? Not much has been written or told about him and as a fan I always wondered what he did for a living, if he was a performer, who his influences were etc. BM. |

I met Geoff 25 years ago in Manhattan. The year 1983, the place Ruben's Deli. I had dropped out of high school & moved to NYC to street perform. I took the pic up top during one of those famous Ruben's Deli Sessions. Great memories of a great time in my life. What I remember most about hanging with Geoff back in those days was his evolved sense of palming coins. He had these great shows, where you would swear his hand was empty. I also remember this wicked cool false explanation he used to give for Copper, Silver, Brass. He would ask the audience if they wanted to know how it was done. When they said yes, he would explain that he just juggled the coins very quickly to change which hands the coins were in. The he would proceed to perform 3 very quick muscle passes (two of them simultaneously) causing the two copper coins in his left hand to end up in his right, and the silver in his right to end up in his left hand. Back then he was a proof reader and was never without his trusty walkman blaring heavy metal music. Our paths didn't cross again for another couple of decades. I saw him again at one of the Las Vegas Magic Invitationals, a few years back. We saw each other again at a World Magic Seminar a year or two later and spent a lot of time hanging, drinking and doing tricks at the bar at the Orleans Casino. It was a tough time for us both. Both of us were being denied any visitation with our kids. It was hell on us both. We drowned our sorrows and discussed out situations. Not good. Geoff was a good guy and a good magician. I'm sorry to see things end this way for him. I just hope to hell that he's having one hell of a session with Dingle, Vernon, T. Nelson Downs and Erdnase somewhere in the wild blue yonder. We'll all miss you Mr. Latta. |
