I don't use patter, just a patriotic song. Also. I use the crystal clear cube in mine. Check out the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFlGpKOfKv4

I use a rolled up cardboard tube.

I have used at various times: A classic change bag, square circle, flip boxes, popcorn box, and dye tube. Also, what I use depends on size of end flag (I use 60" mismades from P&A now.)

As for patter, I use the colors of flag for an explanation (red for blood of patriots, blue for the skies of freedom, white for purity of purpose (sometimes soiled). Then I hit the music for my final production.

If you use an onstage controller, this in itself can be very funny when producing the mis-made and winding down to a stopped record.

I used to give a patter in rhyme when I was making an economy set of mismades.

I have some silk hankies, red white and blue.
Abracadabra a flag for you
Oh, no this will not do,
Red and white but there is no blue.
Abracadabra we add the blue
Lo and behold a flag for you
Oh no, I am out of my head
Blue and white stripes and a field of red
One more time, this will have to do
Abracadiculous abracadoo
Lo and behold a flag for you!

There was more of it, but that was all I remember.

I like the rhyme, but I use John Phillip Sousa’s “Star and Stripes Forever”.
I don’t use the whole song, just certain parts of it.

I also use it with David Ginn’s ungimmicked Blendo, the 3’ by 5’ silk. These are great, so get one if you can. I don’t do both on the same program, just one or the other.

I'm also looking for a 3'x 5' silk for Oklahoma University colors crimson (red) and white to use during half time for Blendo. I can find the ones made of nylon but it's such a big package for a h** st**l.

Could anyone direct me to a silk screener?
Thanks, Owln_1

I found the rhyme and its' a little different than the one above

"A little touch of red, white, and blue
Abracadabra, a flag for you
Uh, oh I goofed, this will not do
Oh I see the problem, I dropped the blue
Back goes the flag, and a touch of blue
Abracadabra, a flag for you
What happened now? Am I out of my head?
Blue and white stripes and a field of red?
One last time, this makes three.
Abracadabra abracadee.
Abracadiculous, abracadoo
Lo and behold, a flag for you."

Silly Billy has a great routine on his DVD "Seriously Silly." The effect is described in full detail, including patter from a real kidshow.

I use Silly Billy's Abraham Lincoln routine - have for a couple of years now. I use a Joso Boso change hat for Lincoln's hat and the flag changes.
