Hello, for a 2 weeks I will be entertaining people (walking magician) on the big event. I'm not living long time in England and I don't know what I should expect at this type of event- This is a party with the MTV television, and theme of this event is "Glam & Glitz"- and all of the performers are expected to take this into consideration when planning outfit/costume for this event.
My outfit for any show, event etc. its a normal elegant suit. How should I look on event with this theme??? thanks for any answers!!! Simon |

My opinion is... if you have a great suit already, that you might want to spiff it up with an elegant pocket square and a top shelf necktie (no the 2 don’t have to be the same pattern.). I would also wear a shirt with French cuffs with nice cufflinks and make sure that my shoes are polished. Strive for a well tailored classic look… think Fred Astaire.

^ Basically well said, but allow me to state that the tie and pocket square should never be the same pattern. This looks tacky and contrived. Some very high end tie makers (Brioni et al.) do sell matching ties/squares, but these are not intended to worn at the same time. I repeat, do not match your tie to your square directly.

Most "normal" suits (a regular business suit?) would not fit a theme of glam and glitz. Glamour and glitz are tasteless and over-blown. Take your outfit to the edge then jump over it. Stand out from the guests.

I don’t think that he said that he is wearing a business suit but rather an elegant suit (yes there are dress suits and business suits). I do not attend celebrity based gatherings but many business and social events where magicians are hired. You might be surprised by how many ill comments are made by guests after the magician leaves, based upon their outfit or costume. So many wear garish loud ill fitting suits (that don’t seem to be based upon a character)… and even if their performance was great, they are still being made fun of. I am truly not saying this to hurt anyone’s feelings; I wish the best for everyone.
Thanks, Bruce |

An expertly tailored velvet jacket, a crisp white oxford, gray trousers and cashmere slippers would look very glamorous without being tacky.

Glitz means tasteless and flashy. To be glitzy and tasteful is not possible.

Some places to look for ideas would be in the pages of GQ and Playboy. I've found some great ideas in the fashion pictorials in Playboy. Make sure that you have a decent budget, otherwise you'll have to settle for something that doesn't make you stand out.

Whatever you wear, make sure it goes with your age and body type, as well as with your performance style. GQ and Playboy are fine, and there's also a similar magazine for younger men. I don't remember the name, but the current edition has Daniel Radcliffe on the cover.
That's our departed buddy Burt, aka The Great Burtini, doing his famous Cups and Mice routine

Actually, quite a few of the male models, in the fashion section, are in their 20s and 30s, in Playboy. I imagine the readership is quite young. I outgrew the mag a few years ago. It's better to live the dream than to merely read about it.
