Looks like they're going after David Copperfield and Criss Angel this time 'round.

Looks like.
How do they keep producing these shows? It's gotta be magicians only watching them, they are horrible. I can't see what enjoyment a layman would get out of it.

To answer your question Vandy, it is simple curiosity. I enjoy watching behind the scenes, how-to videos and footage of movies, construction, etc...
Not that I condone the behaviour, but obviously there must be a market for it or otherwise it would not exist. |

TV execs should be putting together more quality programs. I think the public would much rather see real magic acts than these exposure shows that are done badly.

I think more people watch YouTube than MyMetwork. I really doubt that this show will pull in more than a teeny tiny percentile of viewers before slinking off to rerun heaven. Sure, all those magicians out there doing a woodchipper escape or making train cars vanish might be upset. But really this ill have zero effect on everyone else. Apart from the endless sniveling of those who just don't get it whining about exposure

To answer your question. No I am not a magician, but an entertainer. I do perform some magic but I do tend not to try an label myself a magician as I am more than that. |

Exposure does suck...but at least it has to compete with Monday Night Football. Hopefully it won't be seen by too many people.

Sure there are curious people out there. But generally speaking, I can't imagine anyone who dosen't already have an interest in magic liking the show. You've seen them, they're crap. That's pretty much all I was getting at and it's all right there in my previous posts. I'm glad you have transcended magic and are an all around entertainer. Bully for you. I wasn't trying to start a whole thing about being a magician vs an entertainer or anything like that. I was trying to point out that you really can't be considered a layman when it comes to watching a magic show. You know, just trying to have a normal conversation without getting all hung up on wordplay for once, but I forgot where I was for a minute.

I understand your point now and I mostly agree with you. There is a lot more interesting things to wet a curious appetite than a lame exposure show.
I apologize if my response seemed snarky. It wasn't. I am more than a magician since I am a juggler, balancer, puppeteer, balloon artist....it wasn't saying anything condescending. |

I hear ya.
I have no real issue with the show other than the fact that in my opinion they are kind of lame. But I'm no TV exec, I don't know what people want to watch or why.

I love exposure! I mean, that's how I learned what I know about magic. Someone exposed secrets to me and in return I would be happy to expose to others.
The thing I'm upset about is, I wish I could get an exposure type deal. Nowadays there's big time exposure happening all over the country and the world. It's called "magic Lectures". Pay the cover and ANYONE is allowed to attend. |

I'm a man, Vandy. F the mask, I would stand there as myself. I guess the most upsetting thing to me is that the dude wears the mask?! If you're going to have the nerve to expose secrets then stand there like a man and show yourself.

I don't doubt it. But then again the Masked Magician is on broadcast TV and Angel is on cable if I'm not mistaken.
Does that make any difference at all in the viewership numbers of one show vs another? Or does it just prove that the average layman would rather watch an exposure show over an actual performance? I mean the final episode of "The Sopranos" got about 12 million viewers, the final episode of "King of Queens" got 13.5 million and a show like "Dancing with the Stars" regularly gets 19-20 million. Not that I'm saying Angels show is any better than the Masked Magicians. I'm definately NOT saying that. If I had to pick one to watch, it would probably be the Masked Magician.

I think more people watched T.M.M. than watched David Blaine's network specials, too. Or, at least the numbers were comparable.
So, yes, that seems to indicate an exposure show is more interesting than a performance show to non-magicians. And to some magicians, too. Personally, at this point, I'd also rather watch an exposure show than the Mind Freak show. |

Well so would I, but even I realize that if the Masked Magician was on cable he would have significantly lower numbers. I don't think many people would dispute that.
Obviously people watch the show, I'd just be willing to bet a decent percentage them are magicians. I'd love to see the comparable numbers on the David Blaine/MM thing. David Blaine was usually on a major network, MM was on Fox but is now on "MyNetworkTV". If MM is pulling the same numbers on "MyNetworkTV" as Blaine did on ABC, I'd be shocked. Where did find those numbers?
