Is there such a thing as very thin "metal tape" that you can stick a small piece under the Expanded Sh***, but not making the Sh*** too thick?? I was wondering about this to use with a magnetic coin. With experimenting with it, perhaps it can stay together when flipping it in the air as "one", but easily comes apart during a routine and making it "two" again. Anyone with ideas??? Also, does anyone know where to get thin "Teflon tape"?......... You know where I am going with this idea also, don't cha? .

The ordinary item is a shim, as Silver is not ordinarily attracted to magnets either. You'd probably do well to use a search engine like Google to find things like metal tape, shims, Teflon tape, etc.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

The best thing I found so far is a peace of ordinary razor blade covered with tape.

For "shim tape", try pulling apart the ID tags that come in DVD cases...slice away the plastic outer layer, and you can get a few pieces of very thin metal that will be attracted to a magnet. Re: Teflon tape, the "thread tape" you use on plumbing to wrap around threaded pipes to make a good seal is usually a very thin Teflon. If you don't know what that is, just go to a hardware store and ask for it or look in the plumbing section. Neither of these are sticky, of course, so you'd need to glue them.

What you are looking for is very thin steel shim stock. I have used some with some double-sided tape (the steel shim has no adhesive on it) for the same exact application you described, and it worked beautifully.
You can purchase some very thin (.001") steel shim stock here: http://www.mcmaster.com/ This is the same stuff some of the guys use to shim their playing cards with so they are attracted to a magnet. It is nice and thin and can be cut with an ordinary pair of scissors. They also sell it in rolls that are very reasonably priced (about $8 for a 6" wide by 100" long roll). I would avoid ordering any stainless steel, as most varieties of stainless steel are not attracted to a magnet. Hope that helps! ** Bill ** |
