The Poor Mage's Billet System (available for download from http://www.taylorimagineering.com September 4th)
A billet system using business cards that is as devastating as it is easy to master. This high quality lecture-notes style pdf contains ultra clear directions with embedded video clips. Here is a quick look at what you get: • A martial arts style training approach to learning billet technique. • Two switches with one variation which are easy to learn from the video (and as close to stop-action perfect as you can get!). • A killer "in-the-palm" peek/read, with a variation that makes a great substitute for a centre tear. • A close up drawing duplication. • A way of predicting a series of virtually anything (with no forces!); • An effect in which, "The mage is able to find a card the participant is only thinking of in a purely imaginary deck and then the roles are reversed with the mage visualizing a card and the participant naming it." • Ways of applying the system to perform classic effects such as Add-a-no, the Question and the Answer and a Magic Square are suggested. • A new style of billet index with loads of applications that allows you to comfortably select and steal the needed billet in the open, right under the noses of the audience. "Honestly, they are the highest quality lecture notes I have ever seen. It is as if you are providing a complete book…only better, as you also provide fantastic video footage of the techniques. The readers also see the material in action, getting the full experience. I really like the way Christopher presents a complete system for billet reading and predictions. The billet index is an added bonus and should make a lot of people happy. Highly Recommended!!" Elliott Bresler, author of Switch Craft |

Just to clarify regarding my odd use of both “first person” and “third person.” Those are two quotes in sequence; the first was for Christopher’s lecture notes and the second for Christopher’s ebook.
Of course, Christopher's awesome billet work is taught in both fantastic products, so both quotes are applicable here. EB |

Yeah, that’s right!!
Seriously though, even the draft of your e-book was extremely well written; more than the vast majority of finished works on the market. And the content is quite excellent too!! |

Christopher showed me a couple effect using his terrific Poor Mage's Billet System last week... and make no mistake it is a system! It's a terrific take on using billets/business and index cards/scraps of paper... to predict, to peek-- to build some nice effects.
This isn't hype... If you're familiar with Christopher's work through his Beyond the Conventional DVD or his Unconventional or Inside Out manuscripts you'll be familiar with where his thinking has come from. He has adapted many of his effects to make use of his PMBS. Although Mr. Taylor has been very generous with sharing his many of his ideas already I'm really looking forward to purchasing this. If it's anything like his previously released material, it'll be worker's material excellently presented.

The video instruction embedded in the file is of wonderful quality. The instructions are clear and very easy to follow. There are some very interesting subtleties that work well with this sort of maneuver that Mr. Taylor goes over.
If you're looking for an interesting approach to billit work - this certainly is a quality product that will help you along your way! Patrick Redford |

Christopher, the link on the "Poor Mage's Billet System" title points to a page about your Inside Out book. Is there a detail page for the new "Poor Mage's" book?

I've recently completed reading The Poor Mage and begun working on the basic system. Like all of Christopher's work, this is very well thought out and extremely useful.
The switches are very deceptive and while taking some practice (Christopher does provide a structured "regimen" to assist you) are not at all difficult. The in the palm/peek variant is a great billet read and competes with the best. I also like the reasoning behind applying the system, the whole "poor mage" idea. These kinds of touches are very important to me. Christopher includes a new way to perform one of my favorite effects from Inside Out, "Getting There," that includes his trademark "rapid induction" means of engaging the audience's imagination. Applying his system to this effect was inspired. As Patrick mentioned above, Christopher's use of embedded videos (both in Quicktime and WMV formats) is high quality and a great teaching device. Gerard referred to Christopher as the "new Bob Cassidy" in terms of creativity (not customer service I assure you; Christopher has always been hands on and makes himself readily available). I was also reminded of Bob's use of embedded video and audio in his ebooks back in the day. Christopher, helped by his knowledge and skills with advances in such technology, has taken this idea to new levels that greatly shorten the learning curve. Thank you Christopher for a job well done. You have made some very good techniques and effects readily available and easily accessible. You are a born teacher. |

A question if I may:
If someone already has a foundation in Billet work, How useful would this be? Is this aimed at the uninitiated? or everyone? Kind regards Gordon |

Its aimed primarily at the uninitiated, if you've got a foundation switching in/switching out then this wouldn't be worth the price. It offers the ability to peek very easily (without an unfold/refold switch as well, turning away, looking in your lap) but it also requires a paperclip.
If you have Switchcraft and a foundation this probably isn't for you. If your out to start learning billet work this will give you a foundation and method to then apply to other switches and effects. I think still the best purchase for billetwork is Switchcraft.

Kannon, thank you so much for the kind words about Switchcraft. I really appreciate it.
Based on the draft I saw, I think this is a great ebook…especially for those who own Switchcraft. Right off the bat, Christopher offers the following items that are not included in Switchcraft: Instructions for making Christopher’s billet index An effect using Christopher’s billet index An In-the-Palm Billet Read (you get the switch out, the read, and the switch back in…a complete system) A confabulation style effect A newly revised version of the CT Switch There are also all sorts of nice touches and subtleties and excellent video footage of the techniques. Overall, based on the draft, I think that Christopher is offering a really fantastic billet ebook that every billet fan should purchase. Elliott |

I have to agree with Elliot and do not see it at all as aimed at the uninitiated. Experienced billet workers will learn many useful ideas and techniques from The Poor Mage's Billet System.
