I am curious how many of you might handle being in the following situation:

You are performing at a private party where practically everybody knows everybody. Given that we generally try to separate subjects when two people are seated next to each other that are friends, how does one accomplish this in this scenario?

You could isolate them with more space between seats. You could go boy/girl/boy/girl. You could not worry about it at all.

Hang on a second. You want people on stage to fee comfortable. You want them to relax and let go.

So to further this goal you want to take them away from the one person on the stage they may already know? Sounds like a plan to take away what you have already acomplished.

Seriously though I know conventional wisdom is to keep them from talking, but if they are comfortable why screw with it? You are half way there. Especially sub consciously when the person next to them is doing something, they don't want to be the one from the group they are with NOT doing it.

I have never found a compeling reason to seporate friends. Heck try it in a college or high school show.

Only reason I move people is for 'percieved authority', and get them used to following directions and prove I will be giving them.

I would not seporate anyone from friends. That is just me though.

Personally I would separate anyone who was talking. Easy just separate them or send them back.

They are supposed to be on stage because they are motivated to be hypnotised. I also think putting people in situations where they aren't comfortable aids in the induction of hypnosis.

Where they aren't in control and don't have normal patterns for dealing with certain situations overloads them and makes hypnotising them easier. As danny mentioned by moving or even directing someone to sit or stand exactly where you want them to starts up a pattern of compliance. Allowing two friends to behave the way they want in my opinion would break that pattern.

Excitement even fear makes people more suggestable. If they have the comfort of a friend next to them and are not focused on you then I would see that as a problem.

One of the things about hypnosis especially stage I found personally is you don't have to walk on egg shells. You can be very directive in fact it helps. Just take someone by the wrist and direct them to where you want them to sit or stand with a firm grip and "expect" them to comply.

Why would the comfort of a friend make them not focused on you? I don't get the connection. Why are those suddenly mutually exclusive concepts. Why can't they both be focused on you and comfortable?

I have never had a problem with this sort of thing. Drunks yea but this is never really a problem.

Anyone who is chatting or playing around wouldn't be focused on you would they?

I can only conclude anyone would want to separate anyone because they were causing a distraction.

In that case they should either be sseparated or be in the audience.
I am only assuming that the poster is meaning friends are chatting and not going along with the induction. Otherwise why would he even ask to separate them.

I can only imagine he is asking because he has come up against this and it is a problem.

I have had on the rare occasion had people volunteer but don't really want to participate. They are a disruptive influence. I send them back.

Any disruptive influence is sent back. No doubt.

Actually I have to say that the conventional wisdom IS to seporate friends even if they are not a disturbance. I never figured out why exactly.

I never worry about who they are sitting next to as long as they aren't talking. And even then, I just tell them to stop talking and they do

with the following question-

Its not a big deal but sometimes friends in that respect will try to chat and nudge each other,so best thing is you split them.
I have to agree with MP on this and BMcl.
if in doubt,chuck em out!
