I asked this question in a different thread, and received no feedback so I thought I would post a new thread. With much talk about the slow motion routine of Tommy Cooper and his slow motion silk routine, and David Copperfield's slow motion duck routine I am curious if anyone performs or if it is considered unethical to perform your own slow motion routine that does not use a silk or duck?

Imo, I think that to just move in "slow motion" is still in the public realm..... Don't think I'm wrong there....
Following Copperfield's routine exactly would just be wrong, no matter how you argue it legally.... And I've seen some who do that.... However, doing "slow motion" with anything in Magic, will give you away as someone who looks up to Copperfield for inspiration, to the knowing in the audience....

I was always under the assumption that Copperfield's slow-motion routine came from Michael Weber who performed a slow-motion routine over on the West Coast. From what I heard, Copperfield was in the audience, liked the concept, and decided to use it without permission. Now it's posssible that Copperfield received permission from Michael Weber after the fact. That's been many years ago.

Gerry,
I've heard that the D.C. Slow Mo Duck Routine was an idea from Chris Kenner... Oliver. |

Well if Chris Kenner teamed up with Michael Weber and performed the act as a duo in California back in the 1980s, then I would say YES that is true. However, I don't believe that's the case.
