Hi there,

I bought Don's DVD (Of course) and wanted to know if there is a reliable canadian wholeseller for Svengali Decks and the materials for the 2 card monte?

Also, is there anyone who knows about the reseller legislation in Quebec? I tried looking up the info in the lawbooks, websites... last thing remaining is directly calling the government...

Thanks for the help!

Hi Louis,

I don't know of a Svengali deck wholesaler in Canada. You could call or get in touch with Morrissey Magic in Toronto. They might know.

http://www.morrisseymagic.com/

You can get the "Magic Wiggle" from Pocko's also in Toronto.

As for the reseller law in Quebec,I have no idea.

I hoped this helped some and thanks for your business.

Later,Don

Hi Louis -- is there sales tax in Canada? If not, you may not need a resale certificate.

You could also contact an accountant, I'm sure they would know what the requirements are -- and could also help you set things up so your books are simple and easy to use. A few dollars spent now could save you lots of time, money and aggravation later. SETH

Just for world eduaton purpose, in Quebec there is 2 sales tax.
One is from the federal government (5% of sale price)
The second one is from the provincial government of Quebec (7,5% of the added total of sale price AND the 5% tax)
So, if flea market resellers need a license or an ID, this would mean that I will have to take into account BOTH taxes (Like, what goes to who).

I'll contact Morissey this week and see what they have..or know.

Then after I found a supplier I will check with an accountant...I'm sure I have a friend who studied in commerce... I'll have to find his phone number Smile

Phew! I thought New Jersey was tough when we recently went from a 6% to a 7% sales tax (and when it began about 25 years ago, it was only 3%).

We're pikers compared to Canada! SETH

Louis,

What I do is buy from Loftus, etc. in the USA, and because it weighs a bit shipping is a lot. BUT is usualy next to free if in the states. I get it shipped to people I know only about 20 min the other side of the border, and then I go get it..

Although from quebec that may be a little tough

Seriously, as you know, the shipping costs on Svengali Decks can get quite expensive, as they are very heavy in large quantities. While one deck of cards doesn't weigh a lot, you'd be surprised how heavy a gross of them can be!

Even ordering from D. Robbins (located in northern New Jersey, the same state I live in), I have found that my shipping costs add about 10 cents to the cost of each item I sell. Over the course of a year, that can add up to a considerable amount, and I need to factor that cost into my retail prices, I can't just eat it. Plus, with the rising cost of gasoline, I'm sure that shipping costs will be going up, not down, in the future. SETH

That's a good idea MagicalOdyssey, but I don't know anyone in the states. Although getting to the border from Montreal isn't so bad...

Like it'd be cheaper for me to simply go to new jersey and pick up my order myself? I doubt my old Honda Civic will love me Smile

Don't they look at all that you are bringing back ober the border? If they find a lot of stock they make you pay duty on it don't they ?

Hmmm... I couldn't say but you raise a good point. I'd be hard pressed to say they are for personal use.

"Yes sir, I am a magician. I use one every day, so I need a lot. You want one? It comes with a 2 card monte! 5$ for you...."

Louis. Shipping of my last loftus order was going to be around $225.00 because it weighed so much (Lots o' books) And because it is international. Withoutht the books probably around $175.00 as to where I am(2 hr from the border) It only costs me about 40$ in gass.

Ive never had a problem with "I wanna search you" once we got randomly searched, but they never said anything about the stuff

@MagicalOdyssey: That's good news. The last thing I want is to be known as a magic smuggler! That's like having a criminal case saying you're a burglar clown... try explaining that to your inmates Smile

As a side note, as you get a good order up (like 300$ of Svengalis) can you buy books at wholesale price without having to buy 2-3 of them? I'd take the opportunity to make some personal purchases at discounted price...

As you can see, I'm in Montreal.. so shiping costs could be problematic. As with the long distance call. It's a San Diego number right? Do they have a website?...or a name for that matter?

Anyhow, for now I am only looking for Svengali decks as I plan on starting next summer. As it develops, I'll see if it's worth expanding. But thanks for the hint, drop me a private message with more information please.
