Does anyone know of any published material on the bottom double? i.e. the top card of the deck and the bottom card are turned over as one...
similar to a double lift, but you end up with the bottom card face up on top, and the original top card face up underneath it. Thanks in advance |

Andrew Whimhurst has a great little trick utilizing the concept in his Down Under Notes.
Also, Zenneth Zok (spelling?) has a concept based on a Duffie idea that uses the move. All the best, Ben

Thank you Ben. I will look into these further. Are you sure they are not referring to a greek deal or bottom deal? Thanks again.

You're going to love this reference... I remember reading this in Apocalypse somewhere. I really liked the idea and the way it was used. Sadly though I couldn't even point you to the right volume. Maybe Memory Man Harry could remember or maybe someone more well versed in Apocalypse could help...

You may have better luck, calling it by it's correct name: The Double Deal.
R. Paul Wilson has some interesting stuff using it on his Extreme Possibilities "DDT Open Prediction" and "Left Turn on Cactus", if memory serves me correctly. DDTOP is exactlyu what it sounds like, LTOC is a great ace production where the spectators locate the aces one at a time. I seem to recall that Jerry Sadowitz has some work on this in The Crimp. That's based on hearing, not seeing, so I could be worng*. * sci fi movie reference anyone? |

I was first introduced to this idea in a book by Jerry Sadowitz ( Cards at the Table? ), but it didn't have to technical description, which is what I'm looking for.
Ben, do the sources you mentioned go into techical descriptions of the sleight? Thanks man. wsduncan: Jerry has some work on the double deal in his book with Duffie CardZones, which is double dealing from the top of the deck, called Push Off Double Deal. Since you mentioned Jerry's name, I thought this is relevant. Regards, ~ Feras |

I have always been under the impression a double deal is dealing two cards from the top as one (to give you an extra card during a deal for instance...)
Neither go into technical detail, but if you can do a double and a bottom then it's simply a matter of experimentation (on that note, check the Gene Maze book... it might have something). Ben

DOUBLE DEAL is really the exact term---
see [top and bottom card] --Hugard/Braue EXPERT CARD TECHNIQUE (London 1954) p.27 (DOUBLE DEAL is associated with Jack Merlin!) -- A. Elmsley: The Four Blanks THE GEN Vol.11, p.374; or in Minch: The Collected Works of Alex Elmsley(1991), p.242 but then in -- Sadowitz/Duffie Inspirations (1987) p. 103 the "double deal" is dealing the two top cards as one card; see also: Minch: Vernon Chronicles Vol 1, p. 100 "THE <<NEW THEORY<< DOUBLE DEAL"! |

Well you could pull the top and bottom cards off together with a Gamblers Easy Bottom Deal. Best done from a depleted deck.
And also with that, if l you wnted to, you could use a Marlo Miracle Change to steal the top card at the same time.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

The double deal (dealing top and bottom cards as one)is an old move. MueCard has already told you about Expert Card Technique. The move crops up from time to time in some methods by many card magicians. The act of turning the top and bottom cards up as one on top of the deck while seemingly turning up only the top card is credited to Jerry Sadowitz according to R. P. Wilson. Don't know the exact reference though. R.P. Wilson uses it in some excellents tricks in his dvd series like Wild with The Ladies and others already mentionned.

Forgot to say that Marlo (who else) has some works on the move and Gene Maze has an amazing trick call Double Deal Aces in his book on the bottom deal.

HERE are various double deals - you are looking for top-bottom. Some of those are double deal turnovers and look like the top card is turned over on the deck, but often they are just deals onto the table.
