Anyone seen this yet - the demo video is a touch average, but it looks like an interesting 3 fly routine. An expensive one to say the least.
"In association with JB Magic, we are really excited to bring you Mark Mason’s Come Fly With Me. The Internet buzz on this one is amazing! Everyone is talking about it. Now is your chance to actually get one! The plot is simple, yet the magic is stunning. Not one, not two, but three coins travel from the right fingertips across to the left fingertips. This is visual coin magic taken to a whole new level. Mark Mason’s revolutionary new handling for this modern classic will guarantee a mind-blowing experience for any audience. Comes complete with all the precision-made US Half Dollars and a step by step instructional DVD. The set of coins is of the highest workmanship. They have been made to last a lifetime. Mark would like to thank both Bob Kohler and Steve Dusheck for their kind permission in allowing Come Fly With Me to be produced. No pipe dreams, this is a real world piece of magic that Mark has performed thousands of times. “Mark Mason's 'Come Fly With Me' is a tremendous version of Three Fly. It's wildly visual and as usual Mark has put his own creative spin on things that take it to the next level. When Mark showed it to me I was thrilled. It was U3F...but different. He's added a special gimmick that makes his nifty handling easy even for a beginner in coin magician. CFWM is a totally professional routine that gets both my praise and my blessing. It's packed with incredible training and value." - Bob Kohler "A rare piece of magic, don't let it FLY by you" - Jeff McBride "Mark has added some twists that you'd never have thought of to his 3 fly routine. Like all his stuff you hit yourself in the head, laugh and then go to work. Keep it coming Mark" - Bob Sheets "When you first showed me your coins across routine, I would have sworn you were doing the best sleeving I've ever seen. Then, I noticed that you were wearing a short-sleeved shirt. Honestly, I had no idea how you could make those coins travel so invisibly! (and I know all the other methods.) When you showed me what you were doing, I marveled at the beautiful and clever workmanship of the coins. Please let me be one of the first to purchase a set" -Bob King "This is what real magic should look like.” - Wayne Dobson." |

It's clever, but didn't solve the problem with Three Fly. It's also not a full routine. It's a VCA routine, but that's it. No production or vanish, which I don't like. The two problems in Three Fly are the first Transfer move, which always relies on a tap or some other action like that and the last coin, which generally uses the Visibly or Invisibly gag. It's a good idea, but I showed my personal handling to a friend, that had seen this version and was telling me that I'd love it and should pick it up, and was told not to waste the money because mine looks amazing. All I did was adapt some new ideas to some of Reed McClintock's work, which is much less expensive.
Yes, that is my real name. Yes, I am a real person. No, you probably won't agree with me.

Do a search. There have been long threads on this effect in the past year.

I think there are much better ways to do the effect. Maybe with a better routine it could work out well. The coins are made really well though, that is a huge plus.

This is GREAT. I have studied a LOT of the 3 Fly routines out there as I am a self proclaimed 3 Fly junkie. Mark's handling looks like real magic. Read some of the unsolicited endorsements he has received.
Jeff I'd have to respectfully disagree about the productions and vanishes. A lot of times since 3 Fly is such a quick effect by nature we as magicians just want more.. so we produce the coins, make them go across, and then make them vanish. In my opinion this makes the effect confusing... are the coins really traveling across or is one coin vanishing and another appearing. I had a long discussion with Daryl about this some time ago as he was the one who pointed this out to me. He felt it was far superior to keep the coins across aspect of 3 Fly pure... in other words to take out the coins instead of producing them and to put them away instead of vanishing them. I just visited with Mark and he once again demonstrated his Come Fly With Me. You are SO far ahead at the get go. He's also eliminated many of the moves that make many 3 Fly versions look fishy. His last coin looks great. This is a real world routine. There are many great versions of 3 Fly out there and many great handlings, ideas, etc. with this effect. I think Mark Mason's is one of the best ones. Tim |

I've had this a long time. Coins are very nice, routine is ok. Due to the design of the coins, there are several angle issues if you're close up.

I've seen Mark perform this live several times and it always looks great! I believe the demo is a bit dated. See if you can catch him at a convention to decide for yourself. If I had the $$$, I would get a set.

Sorry bugjack, I did a search before posting this and had found nothing for 'come fly with me'... Thanks Tim, I'll be adding this one to my 'if only I were a millionaire' wishlist.

I did a gig at the Broadmoor Resort last weekend for a bunch of CEOs and their wives. I particularly remember one wife who was skeptical of the other stuff I did, which included such visual stuff like Extreme Burn. She was visibly amazed by Come Fly With Me! She gasped! I've been practicing this effect for a year. I am finally comfortable performing it (thank goodness, it's not cheap!).

It might be interesting to have members of the café suggesting variants on the presentation rather than discussing the props on and on.

A lot of magicians are very guarded about their presentations so I don't see that happening.
For a 3 fly routine, I think the silent approach is the way to go. Anyone disagree?

I like the Idea of telling them whats going to happen. I have altered my routine as I have combined aspects of both CFWM and U3F.
