TAOM 2008 is still fresh in my memory and I’m already getting ready for TAOM 2009. I got to visit with the Houston Magic Clubs that will be hosting the event next September 4-7 and those people are excited. Their website is up at http://taom2009.com and they are taking registrations. Their line up looks great with something for everyone. So far they have booked Michael Ammar, Banachek, Danny Garcia, Ken Scott, Mike Bent, Bev Bergeron, Glen Strange, Oscar Munoz, Kenrick “Ice” McDonald, and Bebel just to name a few. Check out this video.
http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=5rjEZPts1p8 This is one of the best and the biggest annual conventions…often drawing more people and better talent than the national conventions. That’s not just a Texan bragging about Texas (and you know we do like to brag) this is the way it is. …at least, that’s the opinion of this Texan from Dallas. —Dal Sanders

Just to keep everyone up to date -- the new venue is marvelous. They are busting their backsides to get the Omni Hotel and Resort in shape for this convention. There is a complete remodel in progress. All the activities will take place in the hotel.
And here's the interesting part. We are making a concerted effort to bring the guys who are interested in Street Magic (as in Blaine) into the fold. With Daniel Garcia -- who is an icon in the new styles of magic -- making an appearance here, I don't see how we can go wrong. Please visit the site from time to time and take a look. We are doing our best to have something for everyone at this convention.

OK, another Texan harping in, but TAOM is one of my two favorite conventions. It is always top shelf. It has excellent programs, excellent dealer room, fantastic shows, and top ranked talent. And the price is unbelieveably low compared to other major conventions. You can't beat it.

Hi everybody
I'm from Colombia (South America) and it's very casual that my sister who lives in Houston is getting married next August 28 which means I'll be there by the time of the convention. I am definitely going. It seems that I'll have the time of my life. I'm really looking formard to making friends there and learning from those great lecturers. |

Look forward to seeing him there. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Things are really shaping up to make this a great convention. In a time when most conventions are dwindling, I have to admit that our numbers aren't as great as they used to be (well over 1,000 in 2000), but then again, even the national SAM and international IBM conventions aren't drawing the big numbers they used to either.
But we do expect to have a large crowd topping 500 and we already have 18 dealers with room for just a few more. There is still plenty of room in the stage contest. You may never have a better chance to win since the field is so small (so far) this year. We plan to feature the stage contestants as the Friday night show. This will give the contestants a real audience for a change rather than the bleary eyed friends and family who typically show up for the stage contests on Saturday morning. So if you ever wanted to compete at the TAOM, this could be your year! The talent has been set for a long time with some performers appearing for their first TAOM. One exciting thing we are hoping to pull off is the introduction of Banachek's new book, Psychological Subtleties 3. If the printer can get it to us in time, this will be a coup for the convention. Ken did a fine lecture as well as a top notch show.
Yannick and Huot, the Human Deck of Cards, did a great lecture and a great show as well. I recommend them highly. Daniel Garcia was marvelous, as was Oscar Muñoz, who overcame a sound problem during his show with the timing and delivery that only a true pro can provide. Ice McDonald did a fine lecture. John Born was wonderful. A special thanks to Michael Ammar, whose lecture was delayed by a late closing of the evening show. He did 45 minutes of pre-lecture lecturing that was as good as his lecture. We had a good time. The convention was a smashing success -- no trace of an economic downturn here!

It was great meeting you, Ken.
Let me also add that Paul Green did a really fine job with his lecture. He broke down the classic force so well that even I can understand it. It's always good to see Paul lecture, as well as to see him work. Banachek's lecture was in the main stage area -- he has an excellent lecture. His new book Psychological Subtleties 3 was released at this convention. Banachek always does a great job. And finally, Mike Bent, who is not only Boston's primiere children's entertainer, but a fine comedy magician as well, gave his lecture. If you do comedy magic, you need his book -- The Everything Guide to Comedy Writing.

Thanks, Ken, for conducting those interviews. You are a great "cub reporter"
I will be posting a lengthy report of the convention on my Scott's Thoughts column here on the Café very shortly. I have finished the first draft but I'm waiting on confirmation of a few details. I'll let you know when it's posted. BTW, we received a lot of good press on this event with newspaper articles, television reports and video blogs.
