Alright, I was at a huge magic shop sale a few months ago and picked up a few things... among them, a mixed bag of coin gaffs.

I knew what most of them were (set of Opium Coins, Chinatown Half, Hook Coin), but there's one I have no idea about.

It's an english penny with a large finger-sized hole in the middle. At a glance, I thought it was a Danish Oar or something. Anyways, both the shell and the English Penny have large holes going through them. I have no idea what this could be used for.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

May be the rope off coin gaff. Johnson has a set that may be close to this idea.
Close up coin magic.

That sounds logical! If anybody knows for sure what it may be, I would really appreciate a brief PM explaining how to use it. Naturally, it came with no instructions. Thank you!

I purchased one of these many years ago. and, as just mentioned, the idea was to use it for Jardine Ellis type effects.

If you do a search for Ellis Ring Effects, there's a lot of information on where effects and routines can be found.

Does your local recycle place take copper?

Honestly. It was produced so that people could do tricks which would ordinarily use s harness ring and shell could use an uncommon coin with an even more uncommon hole in it. It was a horrible, stupid idea. Don't waste you time.

Paul Wilson has a wonderful ring on and off stick routine using an Ellis ring, but if you did it with an English Penny with a hole in it people would ASSUME you were using a gaff of some sort. After all, you already cut a hole in a coin to do a magic trick...
