Sorry maybe it's me, but I check the auction daily, and watch for certain items I'm interested in. Suddenly there sold, before the Wednesday cut off day, just posted sold. Kinda weird, no.

I've seen that happen before too. Either seller tells them to accept current high price or the seller removes item could be possible explaination. Email them and ask.

Tell me about it! I waited until 9:58 pm est to place a bid on an item that no one bidded on for the week and after 11pm it said sold, so I thought I won it, low and behold nothing I e-mail magicauction and got no response. I really think that they are worthless. Crazy if you ask me that they add their mark up so high on some things! Oh well!

It is a bit strange how it all goes down .. and the bidders are just left in the dark. I can't complain too much as they helped me gain some valuable space in the garage. A "live" auction site like eBay would be great .. maybe someday.

I've always thought the Auction needed a new website that would take care of much of the bidding and communication (much like ebay). That way they could set everything on a regular time schedule.
It shouldn't be too hard to find something. Heck I'd do it.

There are some seemingly strange bidding "practices" on Magic Auction, but it's his site, so I guess he can do what he wants to do. I once got a Mirror Passage for a good price, though, so I'm not complaining...
His communication has always been good, and he's always been prompt to provide additional information.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

Not too much traffic there yet , but I've sold one of my items so far and I have three other items still listed for sale (Harlin Duck Bucket, Mikame Magic Mirror (flexible mirror) , and Mikame Rope Board.) The Magic Classifieds (you can see pictures of the stuff I have listed for sale on Jeff's site here ) It's not an Auction site , but neither does it take any fees from the seller . You keep all the money on the item you sell. Jeff's terms of use state: "The Magic Classifieds operates on a buyer/seller system. This means that all dealings are strictly between the buyer and seller. If you see an item that interests you, click on the "send the seller an email" link and talk directly to the seller." He does actually have a section to post links to auctions that you have running on eBay or other auction sites. |

I purchased what I thought was an original copy of Harry Anderson's "Hello, Sucker" Showtime special via this auction site. The seller was the owner of the site as well. What I got was an extremely poor DVD dub of a poor VHS dub of the television broadcast. It wasn't even a dub of the VHS tape that was sold after the special had aired.
Apart from the copyright issues (which to me are not insignificant), the picture quality of the dub was horrible, as was the sound quality. Worse, the DVD dub freezes up in several spots and it was therefore impossible to watch the entire program. In reviewing the site it appeared that the seller had dozens of these types of "off-TV" dubs of magic programs that he was selling. I thought about alerting a couple of the copyright holders but, in the end, I left a bad rating for the seller on the site (which, because he's the owner, may have been deleted), and figured "live and learn." |

Donal,
Sorry, I did not mean to make it sound the way it came out. I meant there might be more to the story for he might have listed them as dubs and it was over looked or he could have bought them that way and now selling them... ETC ETC.... Cheers

I have only good words to say on magic auction.
I sold and buy many things from them. It is happend to me that I publish an Item for sale at several places - Ebay, my site, or even sold it on magic convention and then I need to ask to remove the item from the site. If you are looking for live auction go to Ebay, you may find there many magic items in good prices. I agree that the magic auction site looks a bit not an "up to date" site, but he his doing his job! Keep the good job Chris.

I have used the auction as a buyer several times -- and have chatted with the owners over a problem some time ago. The biggest problem I have had was with careless or dishonest sellers who post stuff as in great condition -- when either it is used and own much more than "great" OR take no care in shipping the item leaving me to fight a losing battle with the shipper and insurance people.
When I figured in the annoyance and time factors -- I ended up buying only stuff I could see and handle OR from reputable builders who would assure good shipping and handling.

I too had a "funny" experienc on MagicAuction. I placed a bid on an item that had been on the site for several weeks (maybe months). I assumed I was the high bidder, but low and behold it was marked "sold" and the amount was $1.00 more than my bid.

In my opinion, they could run it much better....Chris's looks good...I hope it becomes the 'new' auction for magicians.

With the way they sold to the masked magician and the fact that they were going to resell the same props used in the exposure show, we should whole heartedly support Chris' auction site and ban the magicauction. Just my 2 cents.
