First posting!
I didn't notice anyone mention "Mac Kings Other Rope Trick". Basically it is a standard cut and restored done a couple of times with the final restoration of two ropes BOTH being done by the assistant. Very strong. Of course Prof. Nightmare is also extrememly versatile and adaptable to just about any story or message. |

I am also a big fan of the Professor's Nightmare. I would have to say that it is my favorite.

Could that have been your routine? Not meaning that he lifted the routine just that maybe he purchased it and now performs it. Anyway, it was very magical. Actually, I am going to your site now to purchase it. John Cesta Quote:

Mac King starts his show with George Sands's Sandsational Rope Routine and then adds a few things to it.
It's worth the ticket price to see him work with the rope.

Check out Jim Pace's "What?"— it's great. It's a cool stand up cut and restored rope and the rope goes through the body at the end! For strolling I love the Professor's Nightmare.

A little-known gem that is a total killer is Dr. Sawa's "Supernatural Rope" and its subsequent applications in Sawa's Library of Magic, Volume One by Richard Kaufman.

I get a good responce to the rope that changes color instantly. I call it the fastest rope trick in the world.
I find alot of people like to see me tie a knot in a rope with one hand. I saw Will Rogers do it once so I taught myself. Both of these are fast tricks and they both have a great responce from the audience. Dolini

Aldo is the best at ropes. Michael Finny uses some of his moves I think too.

My favorite has to be the Professor's Nightmare... because I can do it. I'm working on some different ideas for presentation though.
I aspire to learn Daryl's routine, Tabary's routine and Aldo's Mama Mia routine. |

Won't you type it up & share it Peter? I'll be first in line to buy it. I love Proff Nightmare but I've not been really happy yet with any patter.

That's very flattering, Georgia Boy. But I have no plans to sell my routine for the Professor's Nightmare.
As I said, it's taken me 10 years to get it to the point that I am now. And, on re-calculation, I've probably done it closer to 6,000 times, table hopping, stage, etc. One of the problems with the patter is that I designed it specifically for me, and my persona. So it's not something that can easily be "translated" to someone else. However, if you are looking for a theme or a story line to support the effect, you might check out: http://www.ring2100.org/ropes.html There are several solid routines there. cheers, Peter Marucci showtimecol@aol.com |

Aldo Columbini's Mama Mia Rope Routine has everything.
Starts with different versions of cut and restored including some great visual gags, loses the ends and becomes an endless rope, then into Professor's Nightmare with a full restoration at the end, and can be given out as a souvenir afterwards. It also has a walkaround version which doesn't lose any rope on each performance; I'm sure you know what I mean. Cheers Andy

George Sand's "Sandsational Rope" is the starting point for most of the routines you see today. Don't forget that George also put out a second routine where you re-use the rope over and over without actually cutting it. He designed it for shows where he didn't need a new rope each time. This routine is called "Rope Sandsation" — easily confused with the original because of the play on the name.
The Bob Sheet's routine mentioned a few times here is called "Hang'em High" and available from most dealers. |

I have a Bizarre effect that gets a great reaction. It deals with the cut and restored rope but the rope is actually a hangman's noose... Long story but it gets a great reaction.

There is a totally new version of "Rope through Body" on the market. It is invented by Juan Pablo from Argentina. I think it is one of the best rope effects I ever have seen. You really have to see it to believe it. It is not only a "Rope thru Body", it is a whole routine with different and unbelievable effects. A video is included and shows you the whole work.
I really like this one!!! Wizard

In terms of my favourite rope routine that I perform, then it's "Roped In" by Joe Riding. This is a combination, I believe, of the Conway Rope Trick and the Professor's Nightmare. It's a very versatile routine that I frequently use in business presentations and other work-related situations.
In terms of my favourite rope routine that I enjoy watching (but don't perform - yet), then it's "Three Ropes And A Baby" (although I have only ever seen it performed by Peter Scarlett).

I used "3 Ropes and a Baby" (Camirand) as my first build on the Prof Nitemare, I really enjoyed it and it showed me what was possible. I added elements of "Full Circle" (video) and later Daryl's routine. I then got the Tabary routine and really enjoyed that a lot. So 3 Ropes and the Tabary are tops for me. I do like the Sand's false cut on the first page of his booklet and use that. I have not practiced Bedwell's "In Over Your Head" routine yet but I think it is a marvelous presentation, hilarious, I was working on something like that but he is a genius. For close work I like ring and string effects, for that the Ring Leader video is great, and the Relentless Ring and String is good.

I agree it's a good visual effect. I just performed Pavel's Invisible Rope routine today. The reaction was outstanding. It's such an odd effect. Brian |

My vote is for Francis Tabary´s rope routine. I have seen it a lot of times, and it is wonderful. And I had the opportunity to see his conference live in the French Congress last year and it was so amazing, so I only can vote for this routine.
All the best magic, Pablo Tejero
