I have been playing with this all weekend! What amazes me is how direct this is! I have fried everybody that I have presented it to. And the story is great. Kevin Burke really has shared something wonderful. But I guess that is to be expected from a professional actor, comedian and magician.

I watched the video demo of "Vegas Mentality" on the Magic Warehouse's website. This effect certainly looks like an exact copy of "Pineapple Surprise" which I already own. Can anybody clarify if these two effects are identical in method and in how the deck is gaffed? Thanks for your comments and help!

Vegas Mentality acts as a 2-way &%$ *&$^ *$^% $%^#, and, as a #^@#$*%* $^. It *$&%#@ a #$@%&$ one way, and $^#@% a #%^$ & #$^@* the other way.
You can also $%^ it to the $^%@ either way, but I understand that is only guaranteed in the current production run. What does Pineapple Surprise do? |

The deck in "Pineapple Surprise" has a different food item printed on the back of each card such as "hotdogs", "apples", "tomato soup", "hamburger", etc. The first fifteen or so of these cards are shown to the spectator to show that they all, indeed, have different foods printed on the backs. Then the faces are shown to be all different. The spectator is then asked to name any card. Let's say he selects the "Three of Diamonds". The deck is turned face up and openly run through in the magician's hands until he comes to the Three of Diamonds. That card is taken out, flipped over, and on the back is written "pineapple." Sure enough, a paper bag that has been on the table the entire time is given to the spectator to open. Inside is a can of pineapple. The deck is not a Svengali deck nor is it rough-and-smooth. And it's not a stripper deck. In fact, I've never seen any other effect use a deck that is gaffed like this one is. Hint: think "thin."
I was just wondering if "Vegas Mentality" uses the same kind of deck as "Pineapple Surprise" (and thus the same method). "Pineapple Surprise" is still available at hocus-pocus.com for $15. |

Pineapple Suprise is the same as a PHIL deck.

This would be a nice addition to Poker Chip Surprise which I recently included in my repertoire.
Anyhow, I just ordered this from HP. Better be good...

I don't think you'll be disapointed unless you were looking for some miraculous new method.

I like it and will use it. I had an idea of what it is and I was right.
The price is also very reasonable considering that one would have to go out, collect all the decks and r... it himself. What I like is the patter and story you can build for it.

I have two questions for those familiar with this effect...
1. Can the effect be repeated with a different card each time? I know the description says "a follow-up effect" may be done with a different result, but from experience that doesn't always mean the same effect. 2. Are there any sleights required, and if so, how extensive? I'm considering picking this up for my father for his birthday in February (he used to perform magic as a teenager but has long since fallen out of it as a hobby). Thought getting him a couple of effects would be a nice present. I doubt he'd have the time to put into mastering something fairly sleight-heavy, but something somewhat self-working or that he could practice lightly and then perform for family and friends would be ideal. (I chose this particular effect because he loves poker and going to Vegas.) If anyone has any other suggestions, I would be open to those as well. This one seemed neat, but I'm all ears if you think any other card effects would do the...um...trick. |

I prefer Terry Legourald's Double Impact over Vegas Mentality...

I just purchased Vegas Mentality at Denny & Lee's in Vegas. Kevin Burke was in the shop at the time. He is a great guy and gave me tickets to his mentalism show at Fitzgeralds. Great show and a great trick. Thanks again Kevin for showing me your trick and the show. I have been using it with great results. I also bought Quintuplicate Coincidence at Denny's shop which is Fulves gemini twins with a casino rainbow deck. That way I can perform Vegas Mentality and then come back later with the Quintuplicate trick and then hand out the deck to be examined.

I just purchased this and think it has huge potential.
The cards are nice My current presentation is I have been caught cheating at casino's with a card up my sleeves. In fact, there was one casino I got kicked out twice. These are all cards from the casino's I have been kicked out from. On the table you have a two cards, one is face up, the other face down. At first, it seems like you miss You flip the 2 cards your helpers picked and it still seems like you miss You then turn over the predictions and everything matches. Classic magician in trouble. |
