I have read many posts’s regarding exposure and the different ideas to stop it.
I mentioned this idea in a different post and after considering the idea more, I would like to hear the members thought's. Might be an option? Are all people on earth saints? I hardly think so. Almost everyone on planet earth has some form of skeleton in their closet. (An affair, income tax, drugs etc...) Perhaps a little private investigation into the private lives of the m m, the producers, directors and everyone else who is affiliated with the exposure of magic (including sponsors of the program) will bring out exposure of another kind. If they are exposing secrets that we wish not to be exposed, perhaps we can expose some secrets that they would not like the world to see. Be nice to see the shoe on the other foot. Wouldn’t it? I know if I was one of them that I would not like to be privately investigated with my worst secret coming to life. Might just be enough to scare me away from working on the show. With almost 37,000 Café members, if everyone through in a few bucks (maybe some well known millionaire magicians would come on board). The funds that would be raised to hire the P.I's would be huge. I know that this will not stop the program that will soon be aired on TV; however it may stop the exposure of future illusions and help the next generation of magicians and builders. Your thoughts ? |

Sounds reasonable to me as well. It's about time something happens to them instead of getting to be well paid in return for exposing magic tricks.

So we lower ourselves to their level.
Great. This will certainly raise the standing of magicians in the eyes of the public. Now not only are we liars, cheats and tricksters. We are petty and vindictive blackmailers as well.

I agree with Payne. The passion for the cause is admirable, but the methodology is one with which I could never align myself. There's got to be a better way.

To agree with Payne, Frank and Lazlo would also mean to stop moaning about the exposures ?
I can agree to live as a rabbit, but then I have to be consistent and should not try to roar like a lion. |

You do know that blackmail is illegal right? Exposure isn't so who is the better person? This has to be one of the most disturbing threads I have read on the Café thus far. 'Hey all, let's balckmail someone' that is a stupid idea. I am ashamed to be a member if this is where the Café is going.
I laugh at this because it is unethical to expose magic but we feel that it is okay to solicit illegal activity. Where is the morals in that. Shame on you for even suggesting it. BYUDAD |

If I see someone doing something illegal, I would probably say:
Stop that immediatelly or I call the cops. Is that blackmail ? I did not read any suggestion to blackmail someone. What I saw was a suggestion to find out if a certain person did something illegal and if so, expose it. Is that blackmail ? |

Seems pretty much like blackmail to me. I guess you can probably say that a burglar is just borrowing money instead of robbing someone. What is worse than soliciting illegal actions? Trying to rationalize that illegal action. No matter how you dress it up, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck it is pretty much a duck. |

Hi Byudad,
did you hear about the sequence of governments? First come the generals. That is usually bad for a country, because they like fighting. Then come the engineers. That is good because the focus on solutions. Then come the business people. That is still O.K., because they focus on profit for their contries. Then come the laywers and then you are f...ed, because their main focus is not solution or profut but how to avoid to be blamed for anything. People who are scared to get their hands a little dirty better get used to rip offs, exposures etc. etc. and should not waste time to complain about it. So, we ensure MM of our disrespect, explain him our ethics and hope that he will stop ? |

Dixie,
I don't like lawyers either but blackmail is still not the answer. As Don Faith said in the first post on this thread, everyone has something to hide. How would you feel if you were the one being blackmailed? You probably wouldn't like it very much and would go to the authorities. I really don't care about what the MM does. In fact I can't wait to see the shows as I will start figuring out ways to debunk him in my shows. One way might be to do a levitation open the curtain and show a cardboard forklift. That would debunk his explanation of how it is done. Don't be afraid be creative. This is not the end of magic. This time it isn't on Fox so move on to bigger and better things. I would be more worried about the economy. I am also really surprised that the Café would keep this thread up so long. Soliciting illegal activity? To each their own. BYUDAD |

Where do I sign up. This could be a great special.
Title The Exposure Could have a reality show feel to it. Maybe have borat interviewing these people as the camera catches them in the action of something they would want to deny. Great idea. Just have to find a producer for the show. Best,
