I first saw David Copperfield do in on one of his specials.
I watched the VHS (olden days) over and over re-winding and watching and I did not figure it out. Then I saw and ad for in in Genii and ordered it. $17 GREAT trick but you got to watch your angles. Everyday objects: A #2 yellow pencil and a 1 dollar bill. Nez

For those of you that have it:
You can create the illusion of sharpening a brand new pencil. Take a look at you misled and you'll know what I'm talking about. Tim Wenk showed me this himself. I don't know but this may be in his newer set of directions? Also they demo this all the time at the local magic shop. And usually after they demo it they have a sale. Nez

Neznarf:
The sharpening effect is a Luke Dancy idea and appears in his booklet "On The Floor" (which you can pick up at http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=2281 ). It is a great idea (Luke takes it a bit further in his original handling) and a cool addition to Misled. Check out the booklet for other creative items. Rich Aviles |

Of the two, like Brandon, I prefer DC's handling. If you watch DC do it (for those who wore out their VHSs, the effect is on his Illusions DVD), he ends much cleaner IMO than Tim's handling ends. B.

I'm just curious about something. Who is the "magic genious" that Timothy Wenk mentioned at the beginning of the instructions regarding some dispute over his supposed insight or impact on Misled. Just curious. Thanks!

You know what I love, in the manuscript he describes his original modus operendi which he dismissed for being inferior, and obviously not allowing for anything to be examined (well, the pencil cannot be that is) and then the exact method was released more recently and they tried to claim it as superior.
For the pencil sharpening, would it be done visually, or more implied and undercover of the hand or a mgical gesture?

I would recommend Misleading Mislead by Alan Rorrison for those imprompt situations.

A few years back a really cheap, nasty horrible rip off version was released with a circular pencil, and it really was just a load of pants. The person released it saying as the pencil was round, the gimmick was easier to get on and off the pencil. The gimmick was poorly made, and stuck out like a sore thumb. I'm glad it never caught on!
Misled is one of the strongest item through bill effects ever created, and if DC does the effect, you know it won't be bad! |

When did they come out with a newer improved version of the manuscript/gimmick? I'm out of the loop on this I guess!

The one I had was a red round pencil, and the gimmick actualy was almost invisible even without cover. Much thinner than Misled, but it was not as strong. However also not as brittle, It was deffinately not going to break. I was actually quite pleased with it. Although the instructions had you using a piece of paper folded over the bill so that the paper was ripped and the bill was not. Also it did not cover the second phase. As a result, I worked out my own handling for the second phase having not actually seen (or at least not remembered seeing) DC's performance, but only reading descriptions in magic ads. Eventually I bought the real one as well, however, it is nice to now see the ability to make your own gimmicks for other, non-yelloe/number 2 style pencils. Pretty easy with a can of spray paint and something from your local McD's. also, on that note, the knock off one's colouring job actually came off the first day I had it. Actually that night, but granted I had been playing with it just loving the illusion, for about 3 hrs straight.

So, anyone on the pencil sharpening? Again, done visually, or under a brief cover with the hand or something? I understand the concept of how to show it un-sharpened, just curious if Wenk was so bold as to do it visually.

Has anyone spray painted the gimmick black and used it with a more common Papermate Black pen that you can have in your pocket??
Pens are more common to carry in shirt pockets as they are capped..... Pencils are not as common to carry in the office place to do as impromptu. If so, what paint is best to match the pen and the type of paint that would avoid chipping and stickiness??

That's an excellent idea, Salby! I'm wondering if the gimmick would fit properly to Papermate pen? I'm going to see what other pen would give the gimmick a snug fit today.

You could use one of those paper coloured pens.
Also, I suggest spraypaint. It seems too be the most perminent.

True.... But I am looking to use a common item in an office setting. I feel pens are more common than pens.
