Ok just a quick one.
What typical set with a mem deck would you perform? |

I, too, have used a number of routines using the Aronson stack. For me the single routine garnering the best reaction is Past, Present, and Future. However at present I am performing Mindspell, Routine Maintenance, Intuitive Poker, and Random Sample Shuffle-Bored, in order.
Mindspell uses the six cards that spell from the top of the deck. I start with a Bagshawe deck composed of these six cards repeated eight times. I spread the cards facing the spectators but move them in an arc. I then have a spectator shuffle the deck, cautioning him not to let anyone see even the bottom card, and give it several cuts. I have him let someone else shuffle the deck. The first spectator now spreads the deck so a female spectator can choose a card. Of course she gets a speller. The card is returned to the deck and it is shuffled several more times. The deck is now put into my pocket on the inside of a cardboard divider. On the outside of the divider is a deck in Aronson stack. I have her silently spell her card, one letter for each card removed from the top of the Aronson stack. She is to call stop on the last letter of her card's spelled name. I removed the cards slowly, giving her a chance to stop me on the appropriate card. The removed cards are placed face up on my outstretched right hand, preserving the Aronson stack order. When she calls stop, I turn around the card in my hand, revealing the selected card. Eventually, this card is placed face up on the face-up cards on my hand. Then the remainder of the Aronson stack is removed from my jacket pocket and placed face up on those. The deck is in perfect Aronson order and the spectators think they have shuffled it three or four times. Routine Maintenance is a poker deal from one of Aronson's books and very timely given the current interest in the game. Intuitive Poker is a routine from the Benjamin Earl DVDs. I use a Draun peek. It only requires the top four cards of the stack. I introduce it by telling the audience I want to show them how mindreaders play poker. Random Sample Shuffle-Bored is a great trick. At the end the stack is destroyed, and I finish the set with my Ambitious Card routine. |

I love past, present and future though it does destroy the stack. I can only assume that you don't do this set as walk around. I'll also have to remind myself of the Intuitive Poker routine. Ben Earl depresses me as he is too good!
How does Random Sample Shuffle Bored differ from normal shuffle bored? |

Correct, this is not a walkaround set. I have used it in formal shows. My through presentation line is about chance versus destiny and various ways to overcome chance. Random Sample Shuffle-Bored used the little cleverly folded booklet and the magicians' market research presentation.
Benjamin Earl is depressing. What an effective low-key presentation backed up by consummate skill. |

Where is Past, Present, and Future published?

It is in Simply Simon by Simon Aronson. It is a fantastic book and past, present and future is just one of many great effects described in great detail.

I use mem deck all the time in the strolling environment. I prefer Aronson Stack.
Forgive me if I don't know all the sources of everything, but here's my set. Two Beginnings (Simon Aronson) The Trick That Can't Be Explained (that's the actual name, I found the handling in Mnemonica... it a variation of it) Triumph with a Zarrow Shuffle (keeps the stack with the overturned card at the correct position) Then a poker demo, first teaching how to cheat at hold 'em (show them how you know what cards you deal everyone, I do this by reciting the stack... starting with card 19 in the Aronson stack) The Ace of Diamonds is at the bottom during this (card 18) Deal FOUR poker hands and each hand sucks except yours which has a Royal flush (Aronson has a great way of restacking while in play on his DVD from L&L) Then ALL of the cards go to the bottom (10 of Hearts on Bottom) Now I deal FIVE poker hands (this is the Vernon Poker deal that's included in the stack) Each poker hand gets progressively better with my having a royal flush again, this time in a different suit. Then I finish with Any Card at Any Number. The method I use is a straight math calculation with a pass. (I'm kinda a math geek) That's it in a nutshell. If I feel like destroying the stack I will perform Marlo's Miracle with Cards (with a killer ending that I added) Feel free to PM me with any questions. |

Hi MagicJustin,
It was been quite awhile since you posted your standard memorised deck set, just curious though, your set sounds awfully long for a table hoping situation, espcially with 4 poker deal demonstrations. I'm sure it would go down well, but sounds like you be performing for at least 20 mins plus per table. Thanks Baobow |
