Hey guys,
Does anyone know a way to make a chewed piece of gum turn hard and not sticky? I need a realistic piece of chewed gum for a trick, obviously. I want to actually chew the gum, apply some chemicals, and then have it be not stick and hard. Jeff |

Use a balloon, tied in knots...

Will it sty hard forever if I put it in the freezer. I need to use actual gum, or something similar, so I can shape it the way I want it. Balloons will not work.

The gum won't stay hard forever...maybe try to make a little mold and fill it with some type of pink plastic.

I had the same problem for a effect I wanted to do. Silly Putty worked for me.

So you don't actually need gum, just something that looks like gum? You actually want to chew it, or want to make it LOOK chewed? Beeswax with oil soluble food dye could work. This is soft and pliable at body temp, but will harden at room temp.
BTW: Real chewed gum in the freezer will never go back to its soft sticy supple state again, but will not be completely hard either.

What about the clay used in "Bounce No Bounce"?
The one piece that bounce may look like gum, and you can chew it (I have tried=)). It will not stay really hard, but I would guess that it is harder than regular gum? .Kevin |

You could use clayplas from the art and craft store you can shape it however you want, bake it in the oven and paint it with enamel and (optional) spray it with enamel varnish to make it look wet...
That is the stuff I made the initial prototypes of my Sim Stones in when deciding on designs etc before I had a sculpture make the originals for the casting process. |

Crayola Model Magic might work.

Yes, bondo would work well. Milliput is a similar product that would work as well, its also available in super fine grade. It might be bit much, but you could also make an RTV silicone mold of real gum and cast it but that's likely a bit of an overkill unless you or someone close to you have said materials at hand.

If you can buy wholesale you could get the joke chewed gum that is molded from plastic for a few pennies but you would have make a minimum order...

Yes they sell the fake chewed gum at some magic shops, it looks REAL and it stays hard forever, perfect for your use.
