I am looking to replace an older set of my mini cups and found the dimensions of the Mini Table Hopping cups to be just right (2x2 inches). Does anyone know who the manufacturer is? I am guessing Bizzare de Magicia. Can anyone tell me if they have good weight, polish and feel? Thanks - here's where they are at:

Those cups are MM cups, If you need a real set of lightweight workers there are a lot better out there. Ickle Pickle has a wonderful set of minis perfect for strolling. If you don't mind a little bigger than the 2x2 size, Jim Riser <www.jamesriser.com> has the Midi traditionals in copper, these are now my full time strolling cups. Jim did an AWESOME job with the strolling performer in mind when he designed these.
In all consideration, try to stay away from MM cups, you will replace them over and over.

Wow fast response! I just left your website and saw the squatty cups - A little too wide for my use - darn! I use your cups in my regular shows - I'm looking to replace the travel cups I am using.

I PM'd you, there are others, Auke Vandokkum of the Netherlands makes a very nice set of stainless cups that vary in size, including a set suitable for strolling.
Also, check out http://www.cupsandballsmuseum.com and request a password, this will give you picture refrences to cups that are still available that might suit your needs. Jake

Thanks - I have a few emails out for dimensions. 2x2 seems to be the best for me in copper.

To back up what Jake is saying -- these are definitely made by Magic Makers.
They look so pretty from the outside, but when you look inside them, you see little wrinkles. This can mean a number of things, none of them good. You need to visit my miniature cups page.

I have visited the museum - what would we do without it! I took Jake's advice and ordered the Riser Midi Cups. They measure 2 3/16 H&W, so they are 100% perfect for my needs. I also am assured that I will be getting high quality cups. I'll have them in about 2 weeks.

I got the Riser Midi Cups in the mail today. Here is what I wrote to Jim Riser:
Jim, I just unwrapped my new set of Midi Cups - I cannot describe how pleased I am with them. What a wonderful design - the nesting is just beautiful and architecturally sound - great lines and artistic feel. I cannot believe that three 7/8 inch balls fit between the cups - an optical illusion. They nest and detach with ease and are weighted perfectly. I am proud to own this set. Thanks, Chris Manos

I too couldn't believe when my father told me they would take 7/8" balls. My father loves his set and recommends them to everyone wanting a copper strolling set. I'm hoping for a set for Christmas

Scott, my dad used his Mini Paul Fox cups for years. When he saw these he said these would be his replacements, sure enough that is all he has been using. Dad had me bring his to the hospital so he could use them.

Epiphany,
I remember your dad mentioning that in another post. They gotta be good! I hope he is well. Any word on my Mendoza Combo set? Will they come UPS or mail? -Scott M |

Jim had some spare time between his "secret" project to spin the set for me. I did not expect to see them for a few weeks. I have been using them daily and they are a natural for me. I own quite a few cup sets and these are my favorites. Too bad that I am banging them around so much - they really belong in a showcase...or do they????

Evidently the block that they spun these cups on had surface defects. The wrinkles don't show up too badly on the outside of the cups, but they do on the inside. They could indicate improper annealing. If this is the case, there is the possibility of cracks developing.

Seems like the black scunge on the interior should hold em together even if they do crack!

The very first set of C&Bs that I ever bought were from a local magic store and they were the mini brass cups made by MM. This was long before I knew about RNT and the other greats. I bought these affordable cups as an experiment to see if I would ever like C&Bs, because at the time I had a negative view on C&BS.
Now with a very positive view on C&Bs I have two sets of RNT's Mini-Jester and a set of Commemorative Cups from Bill Palmer's Museum. With these mini-cups from RNT I can see the higher quality workmanship on these cups compaired to the MM mini cups that I have. They are very beautiful works of art. The James Riser cups are on my wish list, and many other cups as well. The saddle and the rims of the MM cups are pathetic compaired to RNT's cups and they do not belong on the same shelf as RNT cups that I have. I have two sets of these mini brass cups, and each individual cups are slightly different from the others because of poor craftsmanship. SO WHAT if they are cheaper in quality, this does not mean they cannnot be used. I use the cups for practicing throwing them up into the air, banging them around, and getting the experience of having a different size/shape cup in my hands. Ugly as they are they are strong enough for the abuse that I have been giving them. And yes, I can do magic with these cups. They are not really that ugly, just that the poor workmanship does standout like a sore thumb. If someone was starting out with C&Bs and did not want to spend a ton of money I would recommend the MM C&Bs as their first set, GO FOR IT! |

Keith:
The mini cups you got might have been the ones that MM had CNC machined from brass. They were very small. They were also somewhat heavy. But there was no polish at all on them.
