I don't know how many of you are familiar with this, but it's being rereleased. It's a fantastic, twisted, darkly funny take on the tarot. A friend of mine has one of the original limited printings of these and I have always coveted them.
Steve Bryant has some information in the newest Little Egypt Gazette. He's also got a new book coming out shortly, I understand. You can get some details and order from: http://www.goreydetails.net/show.php?alpha=5723

Mark,
Thanks for the notice. Gorey's great!! There goes some more money! The way I've been spending on magic stuff lately, I should talk to the Senate for a bailout plan! Marq |

That is off the hook, Mark!
I wonder why Charles Addams never did something like this? Or did he, and I never noticed? |

My crystal ball told me I would receive this deck for Halloween, and there it was under the pumpkin when I woke up.
I don't know Addams enough to comment on his influences, but I believe Gorey has a larger presense in modern culture and I know when I pull this deck out for divination tonight, there will be many guests familiar with this querky and creepy artist's work. Larry |

I recieved mine some days ago. I love them. Of course, no one can receive an optimistic reading with these. All readings will be of impotence and doom. They're perfect.

Mine finally arrived, appropriately enough, last night for Halloween. It was everything I hoped it would be. BTW, these things have one-way backs you can spot from a city block away. Just throwin' it out there.

Good to see this back out in print. I wil have to order a set or two.
Years ago I built my own pack by hand. I came across an old Esquire magazine that had the whole pack laid out on a single page. I was designed to be pasted to cardboard and carefully cut out. Instead I scanned them into my pc. Blew them up to a proper size and constructed a one of a kind pack. I'll see if I can post a picture of it up tonight

I, too, have added the deck to my collection...
The quality of the cards is nice; and they appear to be able to withstand normal usage. Sadly, the number of cards is only 20, but with a little creativity, quite detailed readings can be given out. Of course, none of it should be taken seriously... ...or should it? :devilish:

I should hope not. My cards this morning said I was in for a big disappointment. There's only one thing that will disappoint me today. Of course, my cards say that every morning.

You can absolutely give a serious reading with the Fantod pack. Not by memorizing Gorey's morbidly funny meanings, but by sheer intuition. What's your first thought when you see, say, The Ladder? A transition? Getting from one place to another? Ascending or descending? Pull two cards, place them side by side and what connection between the two images comes to mind? Just go with it.

I recently had a conversation with Mdme. Weyrd regarding the Fantod and have just finished some modifications to the system for Samhain (or Halloween if you prefer). If anyone is interested, I will email the pocketmod.pdf and openoffice versions for their private usage.
Larry 10/13/09 In a rare conversation with Mdme. Weyrd, from the bottom (almost) of the Grand Canyon, due to a strange confluence of electronic transmissions and receptions, she confessed to a number of spelling errors in the Lwb, but then proceeded to relate the roots and meanings of each of the given cards. (She also confided to me a story of one followers' system for casting lots after a querant “selects” their signifier card. After the deck is shuffled, a card is pulled from amongst the pile and moved to the “silver plate.” Their birth Zodiac is ascertained by the reader. Now the card is turned over and however it's accomplished, the cards image foretells their fate in combination with their Zodiac sign. If the card is reversed, the unfortunate victim will receive a reading with all of the calamities foreshadowed. Presuming the guest hasn't already dropped dead – a retelling of the card's salient meaning is in order.) :bat: |
