Not much to say, except: LOM ROCKS THE HOUSE!
This, kiddies, is what for television was invented. |

Are you talking about the BBC original series or the sucky ABC remake?

Being a big fan of the original series I'll give this one a pass as they're only going to screw it up. Just like they've done with nearly every other British TV remake here in the states.
The beauty of the original show is that it had a definite story arc that ended after two seasons. Every episode led you closer to the grande finale episode which the producers in this country won't have the guts to do. The series here will just end mid season if it fails to garner enough viewers or go on and on and on finally giving us some insipid happy ending that tested well to sample audiences. The only English remake I'm even halfway interested in seeing is AMC's retelling of the Prisoner. Ans I'm only interested because there other series like Mad Men and Breaking Bad have so far been top notch, well written and produced series.

I was completely unaware of the BBC original, and referred to the premiere last Thursday of ABC's offering.
A remake of 'The Prisoner' makes as much sense to me as recasting the Liberty Bell. Which portion of ABC's LOM was "sucky?" Other than an initial O. Henryesque plot twist involving Bonet's character, I thought the time-warped NYPD was compellingly dramatic. The show nails the early 70's as spot-on as Mad Men does its time. |

I didn't watch it, Leland. I saw the BBC original and I don't like the way americans screw up british shows. Even the ones that are hits. And I get dejavu when I see Harvey Keitel in that 70's outfit...where did I see him wear that before? I would be very curious to see how well they replicate the 70's NYC, though!? Maybe I'll check it out if I happen to come across it?

Looks like a perfect recreation of Gotham City, Justin.
If you watched NYPD Blue and approved of its portrayal of NYC, you'll probably like this one, too. Really creepy the way they showed the Twin Towers newly built. |

For those unaware, the BBC has a sequel to 'Life on Mars' called 'Ashes to Ashes'.

Just because I HAVE to argue with Payne's negative approach, may I toss in a positive...
Sanford and Son. Ready Freddie, Aunt Esther and Shady Grady along with Bubba and the boys had their moments the original (Brit 'Steptoe and Son') couldn't hope to attain. Redd Fox, now forever making Gorilla Cookies by pushing Esther's face in the cookie dough and looking for that big scheme...

I never saw the BBC show that was ripped off to make All in the Family, but can't imagine it being better than the entertainment provided by Archie and Meathead.

I didn't say all the remakes were awful, just most.
All in the Family and Sanford and Son stand out as shining exampples of how to properly do a remake. Unfortunately we have to live with a slew of other remakes that are less than shining examples of their English counterpoints. Three's Company, the Ropers, The three feeble attempts at Fawlty Towers -- Chateau Snavely, Amanda's, and Paynes, Red Dwarf (so bad it was never released), Worst Week, The Eleventh Hour, As If, and Viva Laughlin. Far more misses than hits I'm afraid.

I didn't see (or even know about) the British show. Taking this show on its' own merit, I found it likable enough. Having been in Middle/high school in the 70's in New York, I though the recreation was great. I was wondering what they would do with the WTC, and I thought they handled it well.
