Does anyone know of a topit (pattern or fully made) for a modern sweatshirt/jacket hoodie?
Thanks in advance for your consideration. dsalley13 |

If you know what a topit is and how it works then just make one.
Easy as 1, 2, and 3 best ray |

Potentially, you could for a zip up the front hoodie...for a pull over, not really.

Yes, for a zip-up hooded-style sweatshirt jacket and no, I don't want to make one, I want to "BUY" one.

Not that hard to make the topit. Get a black hoodie, get some black fabric and some safety pins...voila!

I want to buy a TopIt for a hoody. That's all I want to do. This is just like the question I asked about a device to make looped IET bracelets. People urging me to make my own isn't what I need or I wouldn't have asked the question(s) in the first place. If you don't know where I can get a TopIt for a hoody or a IET tying device, please don't offer me suggestions that I should make them. I want to buy them. That is all I want to do. Period. Continual advice to self-make them doesn't get near the answer I was looking for by asking my questions. If I felt I could make them I would. I'm not going to make them. I Want To Buy Them. If you can't answer that, please don't keep telling me to make my own, OK? I didn't ask how I could make these devices. I asked if they exist and where I can "BUY" them. Anything else is off-topic. I didn't ask how to make them and/or what materials to use.
I think I may have found one. David Mann's new TopIt called "The Silent Butler/The 21st Century Hold-Out". I'll send him an e-mail and ask my question to him directly. Thank you, dsalley13 |

Also send a message to Fabric Manipulations. They can custom add topits to coats -- I'm not sure if they do hoodies, but it's worth the price of postage on your e-mail to ask.
Don't jump down the DIY-ers throats. They're just trying to help. You will have to install the topit yourself for nearly all topits on the market, so it's absolutely natural to suggest you make one yourself. And since there is no marketed hoodie-with-topit-installed, you'd either have to get it custom made, make it yourself, or settle for a different product like the Worker's Vest from Buskergear.com or The Silent Butler. Be careful, though. There may be installation required on The Silent Butler too. Also nearly all magicians who do a lot of work with loops eventually learn to tie their own. Loops break a lot; it isn't that much trouble to tie it (less than 60 seconds work); and it saves you quite a lot of money. But if you've got money to burn, I guess that doesn't apply to you. Frankly, I'm envious. Bill |

Blacks Magic Group is supposed to be coming out with a hoodie with a Topit. It will also have various hold-outs.

In my trying to make one (Loopy tyer or a TopIted Hoody) and and blowing my time and material costs for endless prototypes would probably always cost me more than having a professional do it. Being able to buy either item seems cheaper in the long run. Shops like Dave Mann's or Black's Arts Group think things out well and execute some wonderful stuff. That's the best use of my magic dollars for me. I'm exploring having a quilted lumberjack style outer vest made too. Some Topits and a few holdouts will make it a fine piece of equipment for table work in the right enviornments. Anyway, thanks for all the help gentlemen. dsalley13 |

Seriously what are you talking about.....endless prototypes?...
you could make or buy any cheap topit and stick it in the hoodie yourself.... I make my topits from old tshirts. |

Right....so buy one. Any one. Buy the cheapest one you can find. They all work pretty much the same. And put it in your hoodie.
Use duct tape if you want. Your question makes no sense. |

Where in that question (nonsensical to you)do I ask for help in choosing materials and methods of application for making my own? I guess it's too simplistic to ask that without getting rude replies from you. With your attitude, why would anybody buy anything? We could all make things from rocks and twigs and supplant your need for primordial magic. Cards? Who needs them? Do you use oak leaves? Ah "The Rising Pebble". I'll make you a few. dsalley13 |

Thanks to Billgussen, I contacted Fabric Manipulations (Lynetta Welch) and she will alter any Hoody I send her for full TopIt and sleeve Hold-Out installations. She's on tour in NYC this week and will send me full details next week.
I asked at Black's Magic Group and they will be offering them soon, pre-made, here in the USA. I also contacted Lisa Richards, partner of Jay Scoot Berry (a tip was given to me here by PM). She will be making them too, with Jay's special TopIts and sleeve Hold-Outs. So it seems there is a lot of options. Having more than one gimmicked hoody will be great. Thanks for all of your help. dsalley13 |

There is a "Non Magic Purposed" topit in a hoodie device already out there. Kempo Clothing makes one style, and there is another...I have it in my closet, I'll have to find the maker.
Your choices in life can be compared to watching a magic trick: You can continue to believe the illusion in front of you, find the intrigue and desire to learn more, or quit paying attention the moment you feel deceived.

Ok, you're probably going to want to kill me for not answering your original question, but since it has already been answered here's a little something I've found you could do with a regular hoodie.
If you have a zippered hoodie that has elastic at the bottom, the type that is not open in the waist area, you can use it as an impromptu topit without needing to modify it. Just zipper it to about your elbow's hight and the hoodie naturally forms a space that could hold light to medium weight objects very well. I use it all the time. I use the same technics and concepts for vanishes that Ammar teaches for the regular topit. Retrieving is a little harder, but it can be done in the motion of straightening the hoodie if you know where the object is. I hope this makes sense, and that you don't hate me too much. This might actually serve your magic given the clothes you already have while you wait for the topit you're looking for. Thank you for letting us know of all those coming opportunities for hoodie users . Let's hope that the "hoodie fashion" won't disappear by the time those gimmicked hoodies come out. |

Pepe,
Great idea! Especially if I had that kind of hoody/hoodie. I wear a full zippered hoodie, with an embroidered patch of the hospital's logo where the breast pocket would be on a regular jacket. Have you ever noticed how *** cold it is in most hospitals? Most of us volunteers (I do magic as therapy for children and adults in the cancer and dialysis wards) wear them year around to keep the chill off our old bones. I bought a set of Jay Scott Berry TopIts and (sleeve) Pockets and had them installed in my hoodie. I wanted a pre-made TopIted hoodie for my husband, but we bought him a "Working-Vest" from Bobby Maverick instead (it's still being altered/tailored to fit his gorilla-sized body). He'll probably give his vest a review here once he has a chance to really use it. I gave up trying to buy either of us a hoodie with built in TopIts. They appear to be vapour-ware currently. A lot of talk, but nobody has a product available. As a truncated review, I've got to say the Jay Scott Berry TopIts and Pockets are wonderful to use. I had to have my hoodie's sleeves altered (length reduced) when the TopIts/Pockets were installed and I'm learning how to use them better every day. The sleeve pockets are the bomb! You feel like a wizard when you use them. I've been amazing everyone including myself with the sleeve Pockets and to a lesser extent, the TopIts themselves. I've got to put in a bunch of practice, but I know I will eventually get the most from the TopIts too. I bought a bunch of books and DVDs about TopIts and am paying my dues now. I'll order another couple sets of TopIts/Pockets from Jay for some of my other, more formal jackets. His design is wonderful, especially the "backstop". For beginners it gives you a good sense of confidence that "Vanished" items won't end up hitting the floor! Boy do I need that! Confidence is a good thing. :o) Thanks again for your input. dsalley13 |
