I don't agree with theory 11 for producing DVD out of books. It is just going to inspire more DVDs and video to be watched when a lot of people just need to pick up a book. The only reason I will ever buy this is to just watch performances but I'm definitely not going to buy it. But to answer your question, November.

Yeah, I would say by the end of 2008.

Thanks guys..., I can't understand the issue. Really...is it because people have already bought this in print? Personally, I prefer DVDs, as long as it it does not get kids on youtube giving away the secrets. I can work things out of books, but it is nice to see the actual sleights performed. That way you get a better understanding i.e. weak points, angle problems, etc..

Unfortunately, it is inevitable that many noobs will look at a trick once and then put it up on youtube. Personally, I do not believe this is an issue, because the people we perform for, don't search "awesome magic tricks" on youtube.

Well that's up to you! DVDs are here to stay, I'm afraid, and I bet you will buy it yourself?

Yeah, I have nothing against DVD's especially since there is no stopping them. I find that if you simply accept that DVD's are taking over, you will have a much easier time when you do see amateurs attempting to perform difficult tricks on youtube.

Well that's the technology we all live in ,plus I like to see some of these great performers perform.I may never get the chance to ever cross paths with some of the greats..

The big difference between DVD's and books one you get more information from a book but it is nice to see how something might look when your first starting out. Just be careful that you don't mimic your mannerism after the performer you just watched. Also if you read something out of a book and have never seen it done before you might come up with a new or better way of doing it.
Anyways to each their own I say. If anything just get both Tim

I agree with Tim. I don't like how so many people just copy directly from the creator. I can accept that they are here to stay but I want more bang for my buck, Which I get from the books. I can care less what it looks like. Half of the things from other people that I actually do, Look nothing like the original and that makes my performance unique, which all my tricks need to be. I will definately not buy the DVD and if I get anything close, I will buy the book. Plus each DVD is probably the same price as the book or close.

This dvd will sell like crazy, believe it! The book was fantastic and Chris Kenner's work is exceptional so any such dvd will sell for sure. Not to mention that the production quality will probably be very high along the lines of Coin One and Coin Two, since his best friend and professional associate is Homer Liwag himself, not to mention that Kenner is a part of the slick productions at Theory 11 and with David Copperfield.
I expect a polished piece of work and people will buy this for the same reasons that though people have great books at home they still go to the movies to check out the film when it's made, good or bad. So I totally agree with Tim about books in general but dvds have their place of real importance in todays magic as well as it's absolutely great to see this stuff done as it was intended and explained by who actually did it, no matter which way you may eventually wind-up presenting it on your own. Not to mention, that you just might learn something you didn't quite know or know as well as you thought you did from the book, especially from a person like Kenner that absolutely knows and presents his work better than anyone else out there presenting it IMHO. Just my 2 cents.

Marion, It could also be that a pretty great percentage of the magic youth do not want to read books and the fact that these tricks are in DVD format. Plus, all the flashing lights, and seizure inducing video format, catches their eye. Hate to drop the bomb, but this is one of the reasons I can't stand theory 11. If you look at their marketing habits, They are really just manipulating the kids by giving them all this flourishing crap.

I think it's wonderful to see Kenner put the work on DVD. He's a a talented guy and to see his gifted hands showcase his work is good for magic.

I'm absolutely addicted to books as a medium for learning (teaching), but the fact that we have DVDs today... something that wasn't available to me as a kid... offers us the opportunity to archive performances by some of the greatest magicians of our time. I only wish that we had had the same opportunity to capture some of our most revered predecessors on film in the prime of their careers.
Kudo to Chris Kenner and the T11 team. I say... bring it on. |

If the youth are more captured by this technologically advanced way of learning over books maybe, then that's what it is "now." That a predominant portion of an older generation feels differently about that is about normal. I personally find promise in both. Also I didn't mean to in any way promote Theory 11, just that their presentations do what presentations are supposed to do - interest you, much like commercials or political machines are aimed at making you think something, whether it makes sence or not. (Just watching Joe the Plumber this morning on TV news here, and how that was blown completely out of proportion, and untruthfully at that IMHO). I am not happy with the way they do business behind the nonsense they put Steve Dusheck through regarding the Digital Dissolve product they offered...That was a complete rip-off and it was exposed here on the Café. So I am not a fan, but was just pointing at that advertising, what it is and what it does, in conjunction with Kenner as he happens to be a part of it. As for the trappings of T11, such trappings are everywhere and should be watched out for for sure. But in regards to a Kenner DVD, his expertise precedes T11 and is legitimate. I believe that part of it will sell the DVD moreso than any attachment to T11. In this unique case I agree with my friend Chris here, as I believe Kenner's work should be out there in this evolved medium on DVD, and it will be far and wide...I personally will look forward to it from "out there" somewhere and not T11. Finally, I hear you about "Manipulation" as I can't stand to see anyone taken advantage of, kids, adults, older adults or seniors but they all are gotten the best of here and there. For instance the folks manipulating Joe the Plumber now this morning on FOX News, it was dreadful. Joe seems like a nice guy, just caught up in the web of politics, and being used by it. It was dreadful to watch them manipulate the facts on the guy to have him respond to things that weren't true to begin with. His evident intelligence could not save him from being used by analysts aimed at misrepresenting for their own political gain. It's so obvious that it's sickening, so I know what you mean. This topic string of "Totally Out of Control," how apropo. *Disclaimer: "I'm not Barak Obama, or John McCain, but I do approve this message in 'Theory' and reality."

For anybody on the Penguin Magic forums, 2 weeks, to you and I, never lol. I haven't heard a single person talking about this yet, lol. I got the book for Christmas, and wasn't too happy with it. I had my hopes set too high. The illustrations and text format, and jokes in the book bothered me a little. But the little one panel cartoons were fun to figure out lol. It seems like a good percentage of the material is impractical in a bunch of situations, and not much of the coin work is very practical. Idk. It's an OK book but can be better. The ideas in it were great though.
