A bit expensive if you ask me.
Besides the glassware that you can get anywhere, I don't see the difference in this and what is already out there. Anyone? Oh wait, you get a pedestal and a hand towel. |

It amazes me how people can make comments like are being made without having the actual item in their hands. It's easy to judge something from a video or picture we see.."Oooh nice towel"....come on guys, let's have the product first and then make an educated commentary so that way we educate the others and not make this a "!@#$%ing" Café....what do you think?

It also comes with a table that looks nice. I thought it sounded pretty complete.

First, let me say I have no ties to Jay Mattioli, but I will say this, I owned Light Before Your Eyes and it was very good and now I bought Sandz and I will say it's worth it for sure! The table that comes with it is easily worth half the cost - then Jay goes above and beyond to providing everything required to make this look good. The pedestal is an awesome touch and very well built. Jay's DVD is really well thought out and give a lot of insight and history of the effect. It's clear, consise and well shot from different angles. And for the smart ***es who crack about the towel - let's just say you wouldn't be able to pull it off this smoothly with-out it - its a crucial part of the routine and the towel is probably the one most thought-out parts of the routine, custom made to say the least. Well done Jay! I honestly shouldn't say anything because I really don't want to encourage more people to perform this - but he did a great job putting it together and I like to give credit where credit is due. |

Thanks _MB_ & TheTableTopTrixta for seeing things my way, appreciate your understanding. Thanks a lot also _MB_ for your well founded and educated comments on Sandz, it's greatly appreciated. Your comments have lead me to believe that this is a good product and will be placing my order for it, it will fit nicely in my show I'm sure...lots of great possibilities with it for beautiful and theatrical magic as Mesmer hinted to.....thanks for the input. Now if everyone could follow this lead and give comments and opinions once they have the product, Magic Café will be a great resource.

I just recieved sandz and I think the effect is great. jay really goes into detail on the dvd about the different chemicals and how the effect should look. the bowl, glasses and table are good quality. I think sandz is worth the money. my 2 cents.

I also received mine today, opened it up, watched through the DVD and am very impressed with this.
Nothing is left out, it's complete and the custom table, pedestal looks fantastic. Jay really put a lot of thought into this, not only in the way the routine looks but with how you achieve and do the "dirty" work. Well worth the money, one of the best purchases I made in a long time. I must mention the DVD is very detailed and overall Jay really did a fantastic job bringing this effect into modern day. |

Having been through other versions of Sands of the Desert, all I can say is that any trick that: 1) requires refills, 2) involves chemicals, 3) requires lots of set up, and 4) requires porting liquid, better be darned good to offset all those factors against it . . . I hope this one does the trick for those buying it. I am not going to comment about towels, but would say that people should take seriously the set up time and expense with this one... It may be excellent (can't say, don't have this version), but it would have to be to justify itself. At least that's how I see it.

I have just received my order for this today. The Chemicals are not hard to find the set up take 5 Min's there is no liquid to port around... it is very cleaver and is well made and give what you get now days for 300.00 from any dealer this is reasonable value for what you get. The table base is worth 65.00 at any dealer and you have a table you can use the rest of the night !
I did it today for the first time in front of small group of people and they were just stunned to say the least ! If you looking for 5 to 7 Min's for great solid magic this is it |

Can anyone who has received Sandz tell me if there is anything (other than the table, bowl etc.) about this from a standard Sands of the Dessert? In other words is the handling and or performance any different or is it a standard effect that has been made complete with props?
I just stumbled across a video of Jay doing this on Stevens' Magic website and he does a great job presenting it. Definetley brought this classic back into the forefront of my thoughts again.

I would say no it is standard sandz of the dessert...however if you don't want to or don't have time to source the materials this a great package a a reasonable price I think......the way Jay has you hand the Loads is very clean and easy and he gives great tips on the handling of the sand.....

It looks very nice. But the majority of the bit seems to be pulling dry sand out of a bowl when it should be wet. Not that this necessarily makes it bad, but I had sand like that in a kids toy set when I was growing up. Is it just me or is the water resistant sand pretty well known?
