Hello All,

I'm looking for info on the Blade Box.

Stuff like, how easy is it to build, or who I could get to build me one?
How easy is it to perform?
Stats for girl (Hight weight)

And anything else!

Thanks
Daniel

I bought mine from a builder north of Chicago. Blanking on his name now. I wouldn't build one myself and I am pretty handy in the shop. Everything has to line up right. A template is the only way for it to be right.

Performing it is easy for me but I'm just sticking blades in. My assistant is the one to ask about that. I've never bothered to.

I don't know her weight but she is just a little over five foot. She isn't stick thin, she has curves in the right places. But to turn the tip and make extra money she must have something all the guys want to see.

Make the box the size of the girl. To make the girl the size of the box could require multiple surgery !

It works best with a deformed girl because she is already the shape required to avoid the blades.

Fact is she used to put me in the box (Not kidding) Then she put the blades in !!! I did a dress change then popped out.

One ocassion she pinned my foot to the floor >>> We continued on (Thank god it was the finaly) Walked,,,,limped,,,off stage with the squelch of blood and a sticky stage foot,,,, she laughed until the tears ran down her legs.

I said,,bloomimg heck and sugar and words like that!!!!

Sold all the props with performing rights to M Diamond (Dont know if he used it though).

Hi Daniel:

Do you still need the blade box plans? I have a friend in California, that has them. They are from the old Brill plans, but reprinted in easy to read instructions , with nice clean graphics. He has all kinds of show plans. Contact Lee at carnivalshowride@yahoo.com Ask for Plan Number 890.

Hope this helps you out!

Arriving late to this topic, as usual, but I'm been looking into reviving the blade box, and have collected plans and ideas from Brill, Osbourne, and even Burling Hull. I'm ready to build, by using a template and mocking it up with the girl assistant. My question, and hopefully someone with Todd Robbins' expertise will know, is why is there differences in the shape of the blades in different plans? In the old Brill plans, the blades are all straight, and in others like Osbournes, the sides of some blades are cut to conform with the contours of the assistant. I know why it's done, but do the oddly shaped blades fly? Am I overthinking this? I'd sure appreciate thoughts on this subject from some veterans who have worked the thing. I know that Jimmy Dixon and others have used the illusion in the past. Thanks in advance.

I've never seen a blade box with anything other than straight blades. Curved ones are not needed by any means.

I've now got "plans" from 3 or 4 sources, and each one of them is different, of course. Surprisingly, Burling Hull had a blade box plan written up by Micky Hades that is the easiest to follow. I'd like to build one that breaks down to travel.

I can make curved blades, but that design would not allow for an easy brakdown.

I didn't reply earlier, Nippulini, but thank you for your input.
