Cracking up depends on how low the jeans ride and if underwear is exposed or not.

David Blaine talks on TA disc 1 about how it's the effect that matters above all. I doubt he was in a suit and tie in the early days. I doubt you look like a slob so this isn't an issue.

I'd say it's not your performance that counts so much, as your character. Yes, there are those who can carry off a scruffy or casual look, perhaps it's your style, and it works for you. But the vast majority of performers are better to be more traditional, and to dress smartly, or in a costume. Even if you do choose to "dress down", the clothing you wear is of great importance when you're a performer, so even the casual look must be carefully considered, and worked into your character, and presentations.
I'm sure most magicians have performed in jeans and a T-shirt - but in my case, for instance, this would only be an impromptu performance, not a paid gig. My philosophy is to present the best shows possible, and that means dress code is vital. Of course, I'm always dressed as a pirate for my shows, or on rare occasions, a tuxedo or suit. Potty |

If you want to add a bit of "dressiness" to a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, you should wear a vest.
http://resources.shopstyle.com/sim/e3/b1......tons.jpg To add a bit more to it, you can also wear a black tie with a leather jacket (with a dress shirt of course). http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_f4SNH31Ltx0/SZ....../JT2.jpg Sometimes I wear a black velvet blazer, a white v-neck t-shirt, gray jeans, and black sneakers. I also wear a really nice white watch to add more class to the outfit. |

I'm pretty sure that Blaine doesn't do the jeans and t-shirt for most of his gigs. The TV specials are an entirely different animal - it's street magic after all.

I would feel as uncomfortable in it as I would look, in anything more than a t-shirt and jeans, and that would affect my performance. To me the tux and top hat is not part of the every day look that people wear and would make me stand out in the wrong way. Jeans and t-shirt work for me 99% of the time. If I know I'm going out to perform, I will wear a sports coat to put out the casual business look over the jeans and t-shirt. But that is just me. I know several magicians who can rock the tuxedo and top hat, and are just as comfortable in that as most people are in shorts and flip flops. You have to go with what works for you.
