Anybody here from Indiana?
I just got my new plates in the mail. Used to be a sticker that you attach over the old one, but this year they sent me a whole new plate. Anyway, I noticed that on the bottom of the plate, their is a 12 digit number. Right smack dab in the middle of that number is 666. I showed my son, he said it was just coincidence. Just a random number. I bet him a nickel that 666 will be in the middle of EVERYONE'S license plate here in Indiana. (just a creeping feeling.) So what about it? Do I win the nickel? Are you from Indiana and am I correct?

From which angle are you viewing that birthmark? Are you sure it's not 999?

No, there is a line under each digit to avoid confusion.

I think 555 would have been more odd (Math joke, let it sit for a bit and it might be funny later)
Anyhow... You folks in Indiana get stickers as updated license plates? Wait, you get new plates? I'm confused... Do we get new plates in California?... AH! I'M SO CONFUSED NOW!!!

To clarify...until last year we got only the little sticker to stick over the old one. The sticker just had the year on it. It was florescent so that a policeman could see it in his headlights.
Now THIS year, we got an entirely new plate. Took me by surprise. It has the bar code on the bottom, as well as the 12 digit number with 666 as the heart. And I am assuming the police can read that bar code , too. (With some kind of technological device.) Where does that bar code lead? To some huge beast of a computer somewhere? I can only guess. But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the story of my life is encoded in it. They probably know the last time I took a dump.

Some states periodically change plates for everyone because it is much easier to spot vehicles running around that never registered. Other states, like California, wouldn't be able to pull it off due to population and general incompetancy at the DMV, will change plates every so often at point of issue but then folks can keep them. When I was a kid they were a very sexy black and gold, then blue and gold, and I think now the standard is the white with red fancy lettering. The goal in California is to issue the next standard one made of hemp with the lettering printed with mango juice mixed with dye crushed from the bones of smokers.

Most likely, scanning the code brings up your DMV record, letting the police know of any previous driving offenses, whether you should be wearing glasses/contacts, who has the title of the car, and so on. As for EVERY car having it? According to you, the number is of the form XXXX666XXXXX. If the numbers are issued sequentially, there could be as many as 100,000 cars with 666 in the middle. So, with 6 million people in Indiana, even with not all of them driving, I doubt EVERYONE's car will have 666 in the middle. Three 6's distributed throughout a 12-digit number? That's more likely. |

Doug, look for parked cars where owners are inside a common building such as a store, then you can look. If you are challenged say "I was noticing your plate is like one digit off of mine", no harm no foul and besides, it is Indiana, what they going do, smack you with a corn stalk?

My licence plate has a "hit me" embossed and painted bright red on it.
Different states I guess
