If coins are produced from thin air, is it proper to then later remove a coin from the pocket that was not first placed there. In other words, say you produce three silver coins, then for you next routine you need a copper so you remove one from your pocket. If you have the ability to produce coins from thin air, would you not be able to produce all the coins you need from thin air from that point forward?

There's a Tommy Wonder idea that would allow you to do both (!)

Don't sweat it. If anyone asks, you pulled the copper coin from the air earlier, and put it in your pocket. Why waste it?

I really think we worry about things that our audiences don't think about at all. Chill.

I would definitely agree with both Sammy and Curtis.
Let me put it to you this way Wes. If you stick with the 'I have to stay consistent routine' then you can't stop there with the coins can you? You're a magician so the card trick you will be doing will require you to make the deck appear too. Oh wait, you'll need a sharpie to have the card signed. Going to have to make that appear as well. I'm sure you see where I'm going with this. Producing each and every coin out of thin air is not dynamic, doesn't offer variety and is too much of the same (maybe that's why I'm not a huge fan of some Miser's Dream routines). There's a fine line between being consistent and over-analyzing. As long as each routine flows into the other it matters not whether it's produced from thin air or your pocket. cheers! |

Sure, you want your routines to have some consistent internal logic; and while I think this is good food for thought, I've never heard that sort of comment from either a spectator or someone I've asked to criticize my magic.
Perhaps a very good thing to keep in mind, but certainly not something I will insist of my routines.
