After a variety of health problems over the last few years, Bob Stencel passed away this morning at 6:45. We have very few living legends in magic these days. Bob was one of them. While he had various items in print, his reputation was mostly underground, but those who met him knew of his brilliance. There was simply never anyone quite like him.

Addendum: Irene asks that no flowers be sent, but contributions to charity in Bob's name would be wonderful.

I believe Bob Stencel was originally from Detroit. I wish I could have met him. Racherbaumer may have alluded to him in some of his writings and some of the Marlo material utilized various of his moves and finesses. Randy Wakeman's "I Like Nice Things" was based on a routine by Stencel; Harry Lorayne also performed a version of it on one of his DVD's called "Two Gamblers and a Magician."

I have to offer my apologies, since the address is incorrect. The correct mailing address is 5214 Quail Drive, not 3214 as written above. I pulled an incorrect listing from the Internet. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Bob Stencel's favorite magician -- and favorite person except for his wife -- in the whole world was Bill Malone. Bill and I had dinner with Irene last night and only then through conversation became aware of her financial situation. She didn't ask for anything, but if anyone is considering a charitable donation, you might consider directing your gift directly to her. Thanks, Lance |

Sorry to jump into this very old thread, but I have been searching for information about an advertising card for a magician named Stincel, which you can read about here:
http://throwingcards.blogspot.com/search/label/Stincel Another researcher just alerted me to Bob -- pointing out that sources indicate that his name was sometimes misspelled Stincel -- and I was wondering if this card could have been his. Does anyone know, or even know if he lived for a time in Los Angeles? Any information would be appreciated. Gary Brown |

Hello Gary
I do not believe that the card is from Bob Stencel. Bob was an accountant (CPA) by trade. In fact he was my businesses accountant until he retired to Oklahoma. He will be missed though his memory and work will live on. Rest in peace my friend. Antony Gerard |

Bob Stencel used to secession with him all the time. I remember his routine chasing the ladies. If you did not know him you would think he was kind of cocky. But he was a prince of a man. You just had to know you stuff. If not he would let you know. Dan Fishmen was a close student not Dan Fishman. God bless, Ben Zottolo.
