Hi,
I'm new to stage hypnosis and considering a stage name, as my given name is not the most euphonious on top of having a confusing spelling. So what guidelines would you use to evaluate a stage name? Where did you draw inspiration for your stage names? Thanks, James (for the moment)

My stage name, The Trance-Master, came to me in a dream. In the dream, 2 elderly women came up to me after a show and were raving about how much they enjoyed the exxperience. One of them said, you really are a "Trance-Master."
I woke up, wrote it down and the next day, years back, called my friend Ormond McGill and his respose was, "the best stuff comes to us in dreams, I like it, go with it." To get an endorsement from a genius, is something I will be forever thankful for. John aka The Trance-Master Trance-Master.com |

James Haze Hazeler the Hypnotist Hypnotic Haze J. Haze Jim Haze Hypnotist Jim Haze All along the sames lines as Tony's suggestion, however my opinion is that "Jimmy" sounds a bit juvenile, and I might expect you to come out on stage on your skateboard. :-o Hence the reason why I prefer Jim Haze or James Haze instead of Jimmy. I don't hate it by any means, although it seems younger and more hip, but I don't know what your image is or what you want to portray. Everyone has different reasonings for their stage name. I personally do not like the names like "The amazing such and such" or "the magnificent so and so", I guess I just feel that if you have to tell people you are amazing, you probably aren't. Again, like I said, it is my personal preference. Good Luck, Marc |

I said Jimmy not knowing the flavor of his work. James is more mature and more standoffish; Jimmy comes across as more friendly and approachable. Hearing a name sets up preconceptions, to me, a friendly name has the people wanting to like you before they even meet you. That is half the battle in this business.

Just to add...
You "look" the part of a Hypnotist named Haze. If you still look like that, of course...

One thing to consider. Your name is going to be the very first connection they have with you.
Pick one all mysterious and aloof and such, and it may do more harm than good. Pick one which is approachable and friendly and one which is pretty "familiar" and you will be percieved as such. You need to figure out what you are trying to accomplish.

Wow, thanks for all your suggestions! I like "Haze" a lot--would you believe I hadn't thought of that?
I agree that Jim and Jimmy are more approachable than James, but at my mother's request, I've never used either nickname. They're just not me. What about some other J-names, as many of them are variants of James anyway: Jacob Haze Jason Haze Jack Haze @Pakar--I still look a lot like that, though I have a bit more gray in my beard now. Thanks, Everyone!

Jake or Jack. Or you can go back to your last name and be Larry or Lee.

Thanks once again. I did Google searches for each of the options, and I found that "Jacob Haze" really isn't being used much. "Jack Haze" turns out to be the name of a strain a cannibis, though my stoner friend had never heard of it when I asked him. (Despite having long hair and a beard, I've never touched the stuff. My mind is already weird enough . . . )
I've also been toying with "The Amazing Haze." Is that too cheesy?
