Since offering to give the info on the Million Dollar Bill trick, I have had 10 PMs and e-mails. Wow!! Didn’t know there would be such demand for such an old, SIMPLE and well known trick.
I gotta tell ya—the trick is from at least 1951 and is PROBABLY in more books than these but..”Mark Wilson’s Complete Course in Magic” pages 198-199 and “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Magic Tricks” by Tom Ogden, page 133. I got mine on Ebay but I’m sure they are in magic stores too. I set mine up in advance so I don’t have to jigger with the paper clips but that’s ‘cause I’m lazy. I’ll still be happy to send the info to anyone who asks but if you have these books (or others) you can find it easily. For those who don't know what it is, I use it at the end of Don Driver's Svengali pitch as an extra reason to buy. As I see it, it gets the trick into the hands of the kid, so he knows he can do it easily. Jon |

Maybe I have a different edition of the Mark Wilson book - but I can't find any reference to the Million Dollar Bill trick. The pages you quote refer to coin magic.
My copy looks like it was published in 1988. So.. I'm still now wiser about the effect... Help! Regards. DCB

Well, duh! It's pages 298-299. I apologize for the error. Now THAT was mis-direction!! And it worked! ;-)

BUT----if you'll continue on to page 300 you'll see a "link the paper clips WITH a rubber band" trick. WOW!! That one is even NEATER! Now I gotta change my instructions. And add a rubber band. First thing ya know, I'll have ME in the middle!

Jon,
Yes... good one. Wrong page numbers, AND wrong trick. I was looking for the Million Dollar Bill trick.. and you direct us all (me, mainly) to the Linking Paper Clip trick. Do you mean this is what you use, with a dummy Million Dollar Bill? Is that it? Am I getting close now? Anywhere near? If it's the linking paper clips trick you do.. isn't that even more exposed than the Svens? Cheers! DCB, still looking for the original Million Dollar Bill Trick....

I think it's a great kicker idea.
The novelty bill adds value and puts a new spin on an old trick. For the cost of a Million Dollar Bill and two colored paperclips, it's as cheap as the two-card monte. The best part about it is that you can just hand it to the kid, and let them do it. Maybe Jon should rename it: The Million Dollar Paperclip Trick. |

Sorry, I should have been more explicit. In another thread I mentioned the trick and told anyone who wanted the instructions and copy of the Million Dollar Bill, if they'd PM me, I'd send them what I use, including the demo. And I mentioned that the trick (minus the Million Dollar Bill part) was found in Mark Wilson's book and the Idiot book but didn't mention the page #s.
Then when you called me on the page #s, I investigated further and found the rubber band thingy. I like it even better so have now included that in my demo and changed the instructions to include it. As far as giving the trick away during the demo, I only perform it and if they buy the cards, they get the trick and the instructions. So I'm not actually giving it away during the demo. Anyway...As before, I'll be happy to send the NEW demo and NEW instructions to anyone who wants them. Or you can just get 'em from Mark Wilson's book, page 300. Sorry for the confusion. Jon PS....OK, it's NOW the "Million Dollar Paper Clip and Rubber Band trick". THERE!! |

Whew! You know - it's just nice to have that little bit of confirmation, when you think perhaps you're losing a marble or two..
So, as I see it now.. you were giving away the Million Dollar bill with 2 paper clips and a set of instructions... and now, instead of that, you'll be giving away the rubber band thingy is that it? Thanks! DCB

You got it. And if you'll PM me and give me your e-mail address, I'll send the info on my demo (tho it's pretty obvious what to say) and the pix and instructions (that I put on the back of the Million Dollar Bill) I'll be using. (Frankly, I'm sure anyone could figure out what to say.)

Jon,
Thanks for that. I'd be a fool to slap the hand that offers, after all this. You feel like the brother I never had. (And never wanted) :) My email is g0atstr0ker@gmail.com (note the zeros in the email address)

OK for those who want it, just PM me with your e-mail address (Could be lotsa spam if you post it here) and I'll send the instructions, a scan of the bill, front and back, my master of both sides (3 to a sheet) and my demo. Frankly, it's nothing special, just an addition to Don's DVD pitch.
Starting at this week's show (flea market), I WILL be "giving" the home-made DVD with the Svengali cards for "only" $10. I've been too lazy to make the DVDs recently but with Christmas coming, thot it would be the idea time to start again. "....and that's not all--if you'll buy RIGHT NOW you get this DVD playing on my computer right here, showing the tricks close up--for FREE! DVDs like this sell in stores for $19.95 but if you'll buy NOW, you get it for free! SO you get the magic cards, with the 10 tricks, the 2-card monte, the magic paper clips, the million dollar bill AND the $20 DVD all for the low price of only $10." I have a $19.95 price prominent on the case label. Will send a scan of that sheet to anyone who wants it and you can make your own DVDs. I've stated elsewhere that you can buy the blank DVDs and thin cases in Sam's for about 47 cents each, so they actually cost less than the cards. My thinking--it's a neat way to double the price for less than double the cost. It takes about 15 minutes each and I make 'em on my computer. Jon |

I think I have sent this trick and demo info to everyone who asked but if I inadvertently missed you, I apologize and if you'll write me again I promise to get it out to you.

Hi Mario,
Anything you "give" a mark will work as a kicker. They love to get anything FREE! The only fall back I could see for you using the million dollar bill as a kicker is I'm sure its a U.S. bill and you are in Europe. I see you'er back pitching.I hope all is well with you. Have a wonderful Christmas. Don |

Don,
I'm sure almost anyone could scan whatever currency they have and Photoshop it with the 'million' somewhere on it. I also put the work "MAGIC" (in red/yellow) on the front and use half of the back for instructions AND I print it on bright YELLOW paper, so there is no question it is NOT REAL money. Dunno what other countries' legalities might be required. I did so many Svengali sales at the farm show last week I ran out of million dollar bills and had to use the old sheets very similar to your 2-card monte. Come to think of it, I also ran out of 2-card monte packages, had to just do the trick then put the cards on the box and go on. LOTS of kids there on Saturday. I had a HECK of a time attempting to sell strippers because once I got thru with a Svengali demo, more kids were there wanting to see it again. AND they had MONEY! Now if I'da JUST had WORMS! Oh well, there is always NEXT Christmas! Jon |

Congrats, Jon, on the good show -- looks like Christmas came a little early for you! It's great when you have so many specs, you can just "roll" one tip into another, you don't have to attract a new crowd each time.
Have a good holiday season, Jon, and keep those decks moving! And think about those magic worms -- I know they would cut into your stripper demos, but in my experience, they attract people like moths to a flame. Nothing like branching out a little! SETH
