Magic Inc. used to ship Charlie Miller cups in a camera lens case. For more years than I can recall, my Paul Fox cups fit (still do) in a leather shoe polish kit. It opened longways and was cylindrical. Really nice.

Well, I have aquired a set of Harry Stanley cups (not arrived yet) in a trade so I would like to hunt down a case to make them totally original.... I think ebay might be able to help here...
Bill, I read on your site that these were made for Vernon's lecture tour, is there anywhere you could point me for more information on them please? Thanks, Bri |

I'm sure there is a lot of material about these in The Gen, which was Harry Stanley's magazine. When I get back to town, I'll check Ask Alexander.

I've got a set of Harry Stanley cups in the original case & would be happy to e-mail a pic or post on photobucket (if I can figure out how to do that).
Bill has a set in the museum with a very similar style case - they're the set previously owned by Andy Galloway (gold plated P&L cups). I suspect that the cups were made by P&L but marketed and sold in the UK by Harry Stanley - hence the case. Richard

Bill & Richard,
Thank you so much. I saw the same set of cups in the museum but I missed the case, I will look again! Thank you Bri |

Just checked my database of pics - typical, there's not one of the case for the Stanley cups. I'll get one done in the next couple of days.

I didn't put the photo of the case in with the cup photo.

Richard,
Thank you so much for that. My cups arrived this morning and I think they are wonderful! I am also very glad that you went to so much trouble to photograph the case as I imagined it to be very different indeed. Now I know what to look out for. It actually looks like the case was manufactured for the cups they seem to fit so well. I was very surprised at how light the cups felt, they look a lot heavier... Many thanks again, Bri |

Richard: That's amazing. That case looks exactly like on I use for my Paul Fox cups. It was a shoe shine kit. I must have gotten it 40 years ago.

Thanks Richard for the photo of the case, it look like something I could easily make myself. I have some leather experience, and the photo has shown me what needs to be done to make this simple case.
It would be nice to see other examples of leather cases. Cheers |

You're welcome - glad to be of help.
I don't know whether the case was originally a lens case. It's quite a soft case - not thin, but there's very little padding (apart from a pad of suede/velvet at the top & bottom where the cups rest). It wouldn't offer much protection for a camera lens. I'll take a couple more pictures later to see if I can show the inside a bit better. I keep quite a few sets of cups in real lens cases (useful for painted cups like Tayade's that are liable to chip). I've bought all of my lens cases from that well-known online auction website. Most cup sets need a tall case - look for those made for zoom lenses. Happy hunting!

I have 2 designs for cups cases but they've never made it to the prototype stage yet.
The problem is trying to make a case that works perfectly for a wide variety of cups and not one case for 1 set.
