A friend of mine owns a stationary store, and turned me on to Veri-tone ink. It's a colorless liquid. If you apply it to paper, and heat it, it will create writing that appears burnt in the paper.
BUT, it can also be purchased with "Blood Evidence" stationary. Put a little on your hand, set it on the paper, and a bloody hand print appears. Totally safe. |

A hundred thousand million uses for that just popped into my head! Is this a commonly available thing? Like office depot-type fare, or would one have to go to a special pen store or something?

Here's some online resources for Vari-tone ink... Hope it helps.
Click Here! Heat-activated Vari-tone Ink - This ink will give your images a vintage look when heated. Images stamped with Vari-tone ink are invisible until heated so you can send secret messages to your stamping friends who own heat tools! .5 oz Bottle & Applicator Sponge - $6.25 - http://www.stampstodifor.com/newproducts.html

Is there any way we can get this post pulled? This is just too good. I am going to order my ink this afternoon.

I just did, and don't know how I missed it. Oh yeah, I remember now. I'm Shakespearianly (is that a word?) illiterate. There just aren't enough days in a week to do it all.

Thanks for your kind words. I get mine from a scrapbooking store, run by an old high school friend. She can be reached at Memories ala Mode, memoriesalamode@aol.com or 502-695-3477.
She's the one who told me about it, so if you appreciate the information; and it's not too much trouble drop her a line, place your order with her. I know she'd appreciate it! Thanks. By the way: Ink: $5.95 (same .5 oz bottle as listed above) with applicator. $10 - 2 full oz. bottle (special order) Paper: 10 letter sheets (8.5 x 11), 3 envelopes $2.99 Mini blow torches for heating ink - $10 (refillable, 1200 degree flame) Good luck guys. |

Hello,
Just wanted to mention that the effect that we manufacture IN LIZZIE'S HAND does not use the ink that you heat up. Nor does it use the chemicals used in The Jack the Ripper Letter. We use a safe non-toxic liquid that needs no heating or doctors later :o) I just didn't want people to be confused or make assumptions. I also know that when we performed the effect at our seances at the Lizzie Borden House, it was the most talked about part of the seance. -- Bruce Kalver, Top Hat Productions |

The device one would use for "developing" this ink is an embossing tool (rather than a blowtorch). These are used for drying and setting stamp pad inks or for melting embossing powders. They can be found in just about any craft supply store.

A trip to Office Max and the Dollar Tree got me everything I will need for a full season. For us, this means about 700 performances and plenty of extra sheets for rehearsal.
Our cost: less than $11.00 for the magic paper and the "special chemical" that leaves my hand streak-free. Chris |

I'm not sure just how many different effects we're talking about here:
Clearly, one method being discussed here uses Vari-Tone ink for an appearance. I don't know what the "Jack the Ripper" effect uses. David Parr mentioned an embossing tool could be used to set the ink used in regards to "In Lizzie's Hand". (?) From that, and what Bruce Kalver said, it doesn't appear that they are talking about what handa is talking about, which is g*l***r*d and am****a (most of us should know what that is; in fact, it's been openly discussed in other threads, I don't know why I'm masking it !!) Can anyone clear that up without actually spilling any proprietary beans ? I just want to know how many different methods we're talking about here.

Sorry if I contributed to any confusion. I think there are two effects being discussed here: One uses varicolor ink to produce an image or handwriting on an apparently blank piece of paper when that paper is heated, perhaps with an embossing tool. A similar effect can be obtained by a method known to many children, a method that employs a certain fruit. The other effect uses a certain type of paper and a certain liquid to produce a blood-red handprint on the paper when one's hand is pressed against it, but in this case the appearance of the image is immediate and does not require the application of heat to the paper. And some people may be discussing the combination of both of these effects into one routine.

David,
You seem to be correct that there is more than one method being discussed here. Thanks for helping sort it out.

There is also another method that might be included in this mix, there are actually two methods for paper and red to appear with no heat, one involves goldenrod colored paper, and the other uses white paper with one liquid applied to the paper, and the other to the hand, etc. for revelation of the mark, hand etc. in red.
Just thought I would add to the mud! Kymysta sells the latter version, the goldenrod version has been discussed here before. Kay
