Can anyone suggest books about or by David Copperfield?
Or suggest which DVD to purchase?

Thank you very much if you can help.

"David Copperfield" or "The Personal History, Adventures, Experience and Observation of David Copperfield the Younger of Blunderstone Rookery (which he never meant to publish on any account)" by Charles Dickens.

I'm SO sorry.

Funny guy Tom_stamm...

Hey Guiditta,
If you are referring to books or videos where he teaches tricks he hasn't made any that I'm aware of. He did produce a book in 1996 made up of short stories but the stories themselves were written by other well-known authors (Tales Of The Impossible). As far as videos he has a DVD called 'Illusion' he put out in 2000 but that is a greatest hits of the illusions from his TV specials throughout the years.

Hope that helps!

Thank you Agent 61.

My adult son requested a gift of a book about Copperfield's life and feats, not a 'how-to-' perform book.

I've searched online but come up with nought.

Maybe there isn't anything?

I'm new here and so grateful and encouraged to have your reply.

Your welcome.
Yeah Copperfield is one of those rare individuals in that he's been around for ages but nothing definitive has been written about him as far as a biography is concerned. Considering his accomplishments you would figure there would be some sort of book about him by now. I had read somewhere on the Café that a french biography had been just recently released in Europe but I'm not holding my breath on an english translation anytime soon. If your son REALLY wants something 'Copperfield' you may want to consider David's only DVD 'Illusion'.

It's not a book but any hardcore Copperfield fan would enjoy watching the 2hrs+ of 'best of' illusions. I have seen all David's shows and still enjoyed watching this DVD. It brought back memories of being a teenager, watching the tv screen in amazement (I'm 35 now).

In any case welcome to the Café Giuditta. Best of luck in your gift shopping.
Cheers!

If I remember correctly, A&E sells Copperfield's "Biography" DVD here:

Thank you again James.
I'm wondering why you write

'if your son REALLY wants...'

Is Copperfield considered a fraud? Not respected in the world of illusionists?

I don't want to give him something hokey.

Please enlighten me on this. Honesty appreciated and respected...

I really don't think Copperfield is considered a fraud, I haven't heard any discussion about that. He may not be as en vogue as Criss Angel and David Blaine, but definitely not a fraud. Now, there are a lot of heated debates as to the fraudulence, credibility or lack thereof of Blaine and Angel, so I'd tread lightly there.

Any reasonable magician would be happy with something to do with Copperfield.

Best

If you can not find a book, maybe a poster will work.

Josh and Mark,
Thank you so much for this information. I checked the A+E website and yes, they have the biography. I ordered it.

You magic ones are very kind.
