Wait a second here. Are you telling me some of the biggest names on the national magic stage are behind him? That they don't revel in his troubled times? That they are getting behind him because they realise the failure of a high profile magic show is bad for magic and a high tide raises all boats?
Are you telling me that these guys just support him because it is the right thing to do as opposed to trying to spiral his failure? Wow what a great idea!

They have to support the guy. Without him there is no magic. Angel has invented all magic effects and illusions for the past 200 years. If he went away, none of the others could exist, who would they have to emulate?

I'm a little confused, though. The article says Burton and Penn & Teller haven't actually seen the show. I thought Penn was at the premiere.

Penn may have been, but Teller isn't talking...

Yea they don't want to spin them like you want despiratly to. I enjoy when you use a word like "fact" or "lie" or some such word which you tend to skew meaning of.

While I am no fan of Mr. Angel I really do not want his show to bomb I certainly have nothing to gain by its failure. Could possibly have something to lose as magic might become somewhat "radioactive" as entertainment thus making gigs fewer and farther between. To what degree this might happen would be even more conjecture than the theroy that potential clients might shy away from us

I had an invitation to the opening but couldn't get the Las Vegas. I'll be there in March.
Let me give you some perspective: Years ago, when Siegfried and Roy opened their big show, a group of us went to see it... one of our group was Jay Marshall. We went into their dressing room to visit after the show. Siegfried said to Jay, "What did you think???" Jay answered, "Ask me again after six months." Not all big productions start out very well, it sometimes takes a lot of work, revisions, and help. Give him some time.

There has been other magic shows come and go in Orlando since I began my show in 2000. I have always made a point to never "slam" another performers show regardless of what I actually thought of the show. Step back and look at it from a layman's perspective; if you trash another guys act you will appear to be jealous of that persons success. Frankly it will bring you down in the eyes of the person that asked you in the first place.
Also, shouldn't we all want magic to succeed? A magic show that bombs is bad business for all of us. If you live in Vegas and put Angel down then it sounds like you are saying, "he's lame but my show is GREAT!" As a rule of thumb, I never saw another guys show until I heard that it was good. That way if someone asked me about a bad show I could say that I had not seen it yet. Tony Brent Outta Control Magic Show Orlando, Florida |

Selma Hayek was wearing a BELIVE cap the other day (yes, I watch TMZ when I'm around); so the show must be good...

I hung out with Selma Hayek at Newark Airport, once. She was by herself sitting in the waiting area. This was a few years ago before she got married. I walked over to her and said "hello, my name is Justin Style" She said 'hello Justin, my name is Selma." I laughed, she had that great accent. She was very friendly and asked me a bunch of questions about my life, which I found interesting.
A little while later, they paged her flight, she got up to board the plane. She said it was nice to meet me and she enjoyed the chat. She thanked me for helping make the time pass quickly and said for me to have a nice day. I told her to have a nice flight. Oh, and I saw her on TMZ wearing the hat, also. |

Perhaps "wanting magic to succeed" is the very reason magicians should be more critical, not less. That having been said, any criticism that is not constructive or well thought out is useless. |
