Chalk it up to my poor memory, but I frequently waste time going to a thread that I have been to before or that is very old but has had a recent post.

It would be helpful, I think, if each thread indicated the date the first post was made so one could, at a glance, know the age of the thread.

Thanks in advance for you consideration...

Jim, could you explain why this would be helpful? If you see red mugs, you know there has been a recent post since the last time you visited the Café. If you look to the right side of any topic, it shows the date of the last post that was made.

I've seen topics where the original post was a year old but the bulk of the posting were made in the last few months because someone found the thread and resurrected it. In a case like that, what would the original posting date do for you?

Just trying to understand your thinking with this.

Good question, Dave. I suppose it is just my personal bias toward current events. I know that on more than one occasion, I have been attracted to a post that is, essentially, long ago dead.

Especially if I am short on time, my habit is to scan the top five or so threads, and open any that look interesting. This can inadvertently be an old thread - I have ended up on some that were hot topics in '05. Usually the post that brings the thread back to the top has little "meat"- just a few words like "what's this?"

Also, some of the threads go way back, with rather consistent input. If I see a thread with 8 pages, for instance, I usually go to the end to see the latest inputs. It would be helpful to know if those 8 pages happened in the last two weeks, or represent light activity spanning several years.

About your question, I would consider the original posting date the date the thread started.

Hope that helps, and thanks for asking!

Regards,

Jim
