Oh man. Look at the final line of the story.

"Taylor is now in a new relationship with a man she met in the online roleplaying game World of Warcraft."

I think you've damaged my mind forever, Jeff.

The man should thank his lucky stars. After all, his ex plays World of Warcraft, and has killed people in it. And as she'll tell you, that's just the same as killing someone in real life.

Times have changed. I remember when I was a teenager and my girlfriend caught me eating little dots and ghosts. She wasn't concerned about the ghosts, but she feared that if I ate all the dots, I wouldn't have any left to put at the end of my sentences

This just goes to show how divorced from reality a large segment of our population really is. What's going to happen when these games get even more fully immersive and even more realistic?

This is another example of the dangers that modern man faces. We have yet to fully synthesize the experiences of our new technologies, and the common folk seem more than willing to put their experiences with these new technologies into the same mold of all of their old interpersonal experiences. How can we expect for something like this to end well?

"Taylor told the Western Morning News she had subsequently hired an online private detective to track his activities"

Maybe that would be a job for me: an online private detective! I could be a virtual dick. Sounds like fun.

Hey, I play World of Warcraft. There are no girl on the Internet.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

I tried to virtually kill Josh Riel, when he posted over in Pennies. What can he get from a mentalist that he can't get in Not Magic?

I don't understand the question. Think about it a little, I'll pick it up.

A virtual dick? I think that's what got him in trouble in the first place.... Smile

The story on CNN left out a number of important details. Try these, each of which makes its own contribution to the reporting:

Note that the guy who was having the on-line affair is now engaged to be married to that woman, in real life.

The third link above includes pictures of all the principals involved in this story ... real life photos and their on-line avatars.

I have some friends who play these games. People have died in real life, and their clans (group of users who travel and battle together in the world, in the games) hold funerals for them in the game. People have died from playing for hours at a time without hydrating.

Yeah, those links don't make the story any less pathetic. They still say the "cheaters" had never met in real life, the only difference being that the man said he was in love with his imaginary girlfriend and that the marriage was over.

Oh, and now we know that they're all ugly. Not that that matters ... they're sad and pathetic regardless of how they look. In other words, if any of your are falling in love with me, I urge you to stop it. Right now.
