I never (or hardly ever) order a Pizza pie without ordering a side of Mussels.
Is that just a regional thing or are you the same way? Do you eat a lot of mussels where you are from? And what kind of sauce...sweet, medium or hot? |

Whatever sauce they're in at the China buffet. Usually I'm the one that empties the freshly placed hotplate.
No pizzeria around here, that I've found, has mussels available as a side, I know a few in Germany did. Many times did I order the seafood pizza. As for sauce, sweet and medium are both good. ***, I could go for a Brooklyn pizza right about now. Do you offer a pizza bicycle tour? You ride to the five best places in town. You'd be burning the carbs right off. |

I like mussels, but not with pizza. Spicy mussels marinara is my favorite.
I just cant stand when I get a gritty one, it just ruins it for me.

It isn't popular where I lived in California. I had mussles in Boston once, very good. There is, or was, an Italian place in San Jose, Ca. that featured buckets of clams, I've not been there.

It is a regional, national thing. I love mussels marinara, but I usually get a side of calamari. All the medigons on this board live on bugers and fries (garbage), which is why we enjoy making fun of them. Any one who doesn't know what I'm talking about should rent "the Pope of Grenich Village" for a crash course in culture.

Around here they don't sell mussels with pizza unless you're at a midrange red-sauce Italo restaurant. Domino's and the like just offer wings and other such dreck, and who wants that?
If you're gonna want mussels, why fill up on pizza? Here's a song specially written about a legendary Baltimore restaurant: Chorus: Eat Bertha's Mussels, they're the best there is by far You can eat them in the dining room, you can eat them in the bar So when you're ashore in Baltimore and you fancy a bite to eat Just follow your nose to Bertha's, you'll be in for a rare old treat. All: Now a sailor came to Bertha's with a problem most severe His manly pride had been atrophied from a voyage of forty years A couple of plates of mussels, now he sings in a different key His jib boom's set right, he'll be in there tonight and he'll never go back to sea Chorus: All: Now a lady came to Bertha's, who wanted a daughter or a son The doctors had said with a shake of the head that she couldn't have either one So she ate a plate of mussels and went home to her husband dear She tuned up his cryth, and I'll tell you the truth, she had triplets the very same year. Chorus: All: They will cure your diarrhea, cure your constipation, too. Just swallow a box for the chicken pox, the measles or the flu. Now, if you fancy a healthy life, get your daily doses straight A plate a day of Bertha's mussels, and you'll live 'til you're 98. |

Hey Al lay off the calamari...that stuff will kill you. Seriously though Mussels, Pizza and Beer, can't go wrong with that.

Calamari...
There is no way I would guess anyone outside the East Coast would even think about that...lol Nothing better that perfect sauted Calamari. Actually it's my first choice before mussels! Mange, mange! |

Calamari, and snails are also a Chinese delicasy.

I thought that was the name of the pizza delivery person. But no, I never have even considered ordering that stuff with a pizza.

Closest I've come to ordering mussels with pizza was when I was at Denino's on Staten Island. My friend ordered some calamari while we waited for pizza.
The only stupid question is the one not asked.
