I've been thinking about this for a while... just curious as to whether anyone has seen an escape where the guy gets secured to a chair or something with duct tape.
That's our departed buddy Burt, aka The Great Burtini, doing his famous Cups and Mice routine

I haven't seen Helen Held post here in a while, but (s)he was a big fan of duct tape, saying it was much easier to escape from than anyone would think.

Eric Hall did a great escape from being duct tape to a chair. I saw it live at the first Cannon's Convention, and it was fantastic!

Funny. when I was about 13- 14 years old at my Aunt's house, my Uncle would duck tap my cousin and I up.
It would take us hours sometimes to escape... My cousin gave up one time, and we had to be cut out.....

I've used it for two things...Thumb Tie and a full-body mummy-wrap.
In the former, it has an advantage of being something that everybody understands. The latter was one of the most difficult things I've ever done, and painful. The only thing not tightly wrapped was my mouth. I had to chew my way out. That stuff tastes disgusting.

I always thought the secret of escape acts was to have restraints that look really nasty and difficult to get out of, but which in actual fact are much less nasty and easier to get out of. The problem with duct tape (or gaffer tape as we call it where I am) is that it doesn't look like a particularly fearsome restraint, and yet it's horrible stuff to be bound with and to escape from.
I know tape can be very strong. I recall from days when I was an amateur roadie for a college friend's rock band that we once gaffer taped the drummer to a ceiling... |

Yes, Mr. Escape Master.
I started young in magic and escapes. We use to perform shows every weekend in the spare room and invite friends and family over to watch. Somehow my cousin and I got into this joke about duck tape and next thing being taped up was a challenge for us.... We would be taped back to back. We would wiggles our way out... We really did not know much at that time, so sometimes it would take us hours to make our great escape.

Start small with a thumb tie using adhesive or duct tape. You need to learn the "ins and outs" of adhesives before you allow yourself to get taped to your cousin... or worse. Certain lotions and even water can be useful agents in your quest for freedom.

Check out the types of tape first. Some are canvas based, some pvc and some made of paper. The tear of each is completly different.
Bound in a canvas based tape (Arms to fingertips only) Proved to be a bit of a problem as the tape wrinkled rather than tore which gave it more resistance. The paper based tape (If pre started with a nick in it) Would rip straight down making escape quick and simple. However it took the hairs off of the arms leaving nude arm areas which looks kinda odd along with the red blotches. Getting the hairs off of the adhesive to transplant became impossible !! Ken, |

Ah is that what you have not hair on your head ... you had it transplanted to your amrs......
and you have patchy red spots ..... are they soft and fluffy? Have you harvested them recently to box and sell at all kinds of venues? |
