Wow Brett, that's a bummer about the Macbook Pro. I swear by Macs and know a few others on here who do as well.
I'm very excited to see the routine. I'll take one as soon as it's ready. Now, since you keep popping up on here, I'm going to put you on the spot. Where are the Sherwood wands? I remember an email from you saying they would be ready by Christmas, 3 years ago. Can you give some details? Pep |

(My Pack Of Cards Post)
Hi Pepka - That is a very good question and you deserve an explanation, because I know you have been waiting for my WANDS ... me too! My initial wand design was almost ready to go into production about three years ago, but then I bumped into a top cups and balls entertainer (who everyone knows and respects here) and he suggested a great idea to me (off hand), which made me think about my wands in a different way. I then decided I would like to use his idea and he agreed to endorse my completely 'NEW' wand design and these had to be redesigned and after a year they were getting ready to be produced, but then the engineer I was working with for over a year kept letting me down (not doing any agreed work etc...) and he finally got fired from his job, so I left him and had to find another engineer... BIG problem after over a year of working closely together. Then I suddenly moved house....everything everywhere in boxes, life on hold etc...eventually a year later I'm talking to my NEW wand engineer friend who (I eventually found) he is enthusiastic and clever at suggesting concepts and we kept coming up with other better ideas, then again and again ... so I'm now ready to finally produce the NEW improved wands.... Then I unexpectedly go through a marriage separation .... move house .... unpack ..... settle my life back down again, now I'm ready to begin again focused on my magic. Then the Princess cups arrive on the scene and I have to devote much time to trademark paper work, etc.... Now these have been removed again and hopefully (?) now I can focus back on getting my other magic ideas out, including the wands, but with the economy against us all...we shall see? But I'm staying optimistic and finally once again with a little extra time for myself lately and that is why I seem to be popping up here a little bit more than usual, because I have a little extra time, but not too much time ... anyway that is a VERY SIMPLIFIED version of the delay in my life ... getting my wands onto the marketplace and into your hands. Once I get my MAC back with data recovered ...? (I have to collect it from London today and take it to another firm who specialize in this MAC data recovery tomorrow, then off to Malta - never a dull moment)! Then I'll be a little closer to getting there....I keep my chin up ... hoping ..... Kind Regards, Brett Sherwood |

I know just how you feel with this data recovery situation. I was about 2/3 of the way through a translation of the first Borodin book, and lost the data. It was my own stupid fault. I lost the original and the backups. I had decided to rename my drives one night, and did not realize that you must restart the computer after every individual renaming. The data was all there, but the file allocation table on the drive with all the info was messed up.
A friend of mine who does all sorts of work like this came over. We bought a new drive, did a disk image of the old one, and then he reconstructed the file allocation table on the image. After that was successful, he did the other drive as well. It took several hours, because it was a fairly large drive (by those standards), and it had to be done bit by bit. I learned a very valuable lesson. I now have two complete copies of all my work on separate drives.

We all have bad things happen to us ... Bill Palmer just road out two bad hurricanes in Houston and I know we each have things that happen to us and our family every year - it's called 'life'! Admitted my life could have been a little easier, but it doesn't matter, because dealing with it just makes me stronger and builds character - I just get on with it - my magic work and keep the faith... My wands, cups and balls routines, DVD's and maybe even the Copperfield trick might just all get out in 2009 with a little luck on my side...? I'm off cruising tomorrow again ... so I may not be able to visit here for a while again... Kind Regards, Brett Sherwood PS) Maybe I should have rubbed extra Hobbit poop in that cup to prevent it from cracking during all that hammering .... dang .... I'll have to remember that .... never a dull day in the Shire .... |

Brett...maybe this could inspire you to come out with a series of "Shire Cups" ..I'll go for a set of Elv cups...I always loved the Lothlorien scenes in the movie. Or maybe a Gandalf chop cup.

Yes, there might just be a new run, but it all depends on the quantity of people that want them, so please spread the news. I mentioned my last run over a year ago (I think?) and since I've had many ask for the Engraved ALL Silver, so if you or one of your friends wants a set email me. I must state for the record that I will only take orders with a $1000 deposit. I know that is steep and there will be a wait, BUT the last time I didn't take deposits and I was stiffed by several magicians, actually about 20% never answered my emails or followed through, so because of these magicians I must now ask for the heavy deposit, BUT on the bright side, in about two months you will own a set of numbered - Limited Edition MINT Engraved ALL Silver cups! You will also have about two months to save up the remaining $650 which will be due once the cups are received from my spinner/engraver. Please spread the news, because this will only happen if enough magicians want this style cup. If you do not know me or my business please visit my website (www.SherwoodMagic.com) and read all my testimonials so you can rest assured that I will give you the very best service possible! Had to chime in here.
I regret the initial Hobbit posting. I didn't mean to reveal any trade secrets. Brett has been an incredible supporter of my efforts. He has come up with scads of balls of different colors for my routine. The engraved silver cups he makes had been a dream of mine ever since I saw Vernon's cups in the Dai Vernon book of magic. I debated for months before coughing up the dough. I cannot tell you how happy I was when they arrived. The workmanship and design that went into those cups inspired me like no other event in my time in magic. I am still in awe of the quality of these cups. I have never spent a huge amount of money on magic props, before or after my dealings with Brett. I have never had a single set of props give me such a wonderful return. Part history, part dream, all magic: That's what the Sherwood Cups are to me! Thank you Brett for all the extras you made for me. Thank you for being enthusiasitic and gracious about my own attempts at a cups and balls routine. Kent Gunn |

I remember when you first sent me your cup routine to view and I was happy to do so, but to be honest, not having met you - I didn't expect anything special – who would…? After watching it I thought to myself - this guy really thinks 'out-of-the-box' and I respect that! I respect anyone who dares to be different and is willing to put in the time to create something concrete and real, not just pipe dreams and fantasizing about their own prowess instead of actually grafting day after day – week after week to get it right and to create something substantial that inspires others. This touches on a personal philosophy of mine about magic - the art I love – which revolves around trying to continually elevate the art. I’ve attempted to do this with my Engraved Silver Cup design and by all accounts - I was lucky to get it right. However just being different isn’t always a recipe for success, but combining intelligent application of theory, experience and hard work - then you have a better chance at success. When someone tells me that the fruits of my labour (my cups) have inspired them to create a routine which in itself has inspired others, then the circle is complete and will generate more and more constructive and forward thinking magic – thus elevating the art higher and higher. Since before I designed my cups I had an idea for a different type of cups and balls routine. After my cups were designed I had lots of people ask me about MY routine, so from 2006 I began working diligently on a different concept routine, which I hope to debut before the end of 2008. I’ve told Kent that he has actually gotten closer than anyone else to thinking ‘out-of-the-box’ enough to touch along the same lines as my routine – not that my routine is any better than his, but more to the point - that we both are intentionally thinking differently about our approach to our magic in an attempt to once again raise the bar. Like Kent’s routine I hope my efforts toward my own routine will further inspire others and Kent will be one of the first to view it! Many thanks Kent – you are a true gentleman! Best Regards, Brett Sherwood |

I think it is very special on several levels, but hey don't take it from me, watch it yourself in the near future. It would already be at the printers now - had my MAC BOOK PRO hard drive not failed ... and no data retrievable ... six months of work gone!! However on the bright side - it is still in my head and in my fingers and I've just got to get time to sit down and write it up again! Thank you for your interest. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! The Sherwood cups have a feel to them that I just don't have with any other cup. I didn't understand other's comments like this until I bought my set and held them for the first time. If you don't own a set, you'll understand when you do.
Simply put - they 'fit' your hand like a glove (not a mitten).

That is the absolute truth. When Michael Vincent was in the US a year ago, he stopped by the Museum, and I let him play in the cups. He decided he liked the engraved copper Sherwoods and ordered a set when he got home.
I really like mine. The cups are consistent all the way across the board. No matter which set you buy, it will feel just right.

They are absolutely THE CUPS to have.
They are the best. It is not possible to copy them. No way. The balance is GREAT and there is something special I cannot explain. Among the 20 and more sets I have they are what I use and I think they are just better than the others. THE BEST. By the way the service Brett gives is First Quality....nothing comparable....the way it should be! Happy New Year. 3....2....1..... |
