I am really intrigued by this effect. I was just wandering if anyone who owns it also performs with contact lenses. I wear glasses daily but when performing I always wear my contacts. Is it possible to perform this safely with contacts.
I also have dry eyes most of the time and was wondering if that would be a factor in performance. If anyone who might fit this performing scenario could let me know their thoughts on that, I would really appreciate it. Tony Chris

My main concern with the contacts would be of course, would they be jeopardized in falling out during the actual reveletion of the thread being pulled out. That and possible irratation due to contact wearers having a large portion of their eye covered by the contact lens.
I am hoping that any of the magicians out there who already use Thread and wear contacts could let let us know if contacts are even an issue. I am hoping not because this would be the only thing preventing me from purchasing it at the moment. I really like the impact of this effect on spectators. Tony

Perhaps I can answer some of the questions posed by those who wear contacts. I wear glasses and contacts. I mostly wear the contacts for my shows. I put in my contacts to test how it would be and what I found was difficulty in setting up. I highly recommend removing contacts prior to setting up. I put contacts back in after set up, but the obvious happened while performing it in front of the mirror. My contact came out and fell into the sink and down the drain.): Advice: remove contacts before set up and performing.
As far as using 100% polyester... not recommended. Cotton is absorbant with that "stuff", much more than polyester. This is why cotton is recommended. It makes the set up much easier than using polyester. Try both and you'll see what I mean. It'll take some practice to get used to performing the "Geek" method, but if you choose to practice it several times in a day, be prepared to get an irritated eye. I got used to it right away mostly because I'm used to putting in and taking out contacts. The extraction is a tickling sensation. In conclusion; There are two methods that Wayne explains. The "Geek" method can still be performed with those who wear contacts, but you should really remove contacts to do this method. If you are not willing to remove contacts to perform "Geek" method, another method is taught which gets crazy reactions as well. Don't walk away from this just because you wear contacts. Use 100% cotton, and nothing less. It works best so why settle with less. Make sure you sanitize your hands first. This step may seem non important, but it is important.

Thanks for the info Dan. Good information indeed. I will have to think about this and weigh the pros and cons for set up.
Your information is most helpful. Tony

Ouch. I love this effect but am having trouble settng up the geek method. Eye hurts. lol I had to get some liquid curage in me to try the geek method. its the only way I could touch my eye. yet that might also be the reason why my eye hurts. lol
I hope I am able to do the geek method. it seems that I have to slowly build up.. I love this thing |

Start off with a smaller piece of 100% cotton string. Make sure you sanatize hands first. Salt on the fingers will cause eye to burn. It takes a little bit to get used to, but it is harmless to the eye.

The effects on the DVD and lecture notes are far beyond your abilities. (They require mastery of the mechanic's grip.) It would only break your heart. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz.......(This post has got to be in my top 5.) |

Just a couple of things to ad. I have found keeping the thread in a clean empty pill bottle is best doing this will cut down on the risk of infection. I have done the setup 2 hours in advance with no ill effects. I experienced some minor irritation when practicing the effect and now alternate between right eye and left. I have experimented with saline and vizene and found no difference between the two.
I want to thank Wayne for this as I read about this effect years ago in Swami Mantra but never had the 00's to do it till Wayne released it. If you like "geek" magic you should check out Swami Mantra lots of insane effects but other than thread from eye don't have the 00's to do any of it! It's hard to get but some copies still exist. Peace Happy Holidays everyone... |

Okay, I actually recently found the time to go out and buy the supplies for Thread, and performed it yesterday in front of the mirror. It looked amazing but my eye seriously hurt during performance. I'm wondering if I got the right kind of thread? 100% mercerized cotton?
