I just received my Schoolcraft flipper quarter and am quite impressed. I love the fact that it opens by just holding it on the sides. It's almost like it's just a shell hinged onto a quarter. I'd like to get a "gravity" flipper half dollar like this as well but can't quite rationalize paying another $80. Does anyone know if there's any way to get one of the more reasonably priced flippers to perform like a gravity flipper - Tango, Sasco, etc?

Ebay lol. I believe penguinmagic also sells flippers from tango and sasco although I have heard bad things about sasco.

I have heard that tango's gravity flipper is not bad at all. I am not sure if they carry it in silver though. Penguinmagic definitely carries their clad version.

I found a Tango Gravity Flipper on the tango website. Cheaper than Schoolcraft, and I'd assume Lassen, but not cheap:
https://www.tangomagic.com/product.php?p......0&page=1 Are these gravity? All I'm looking for is something that casually opens without having to unnaturally whip it: http://themagicwarehouse.com/cgi-bin/findit.pl?x_item=JO2954 http://themagicwarehouse.com/cgi-bin/findit.pl?x_item=CO3464

As far as I know, the only Gravity Flippers out there are made by Todd Lassen, Jamie Schoolcraft, and Tango. Tango is most likely the cheapest one you'll find.

Gravity flippers vs. standard flippers 101:
It's just a matter of the tension of the elastic. As I've said before, ANY flipper can become a grav flipper. Kerpa did a lot of research on the subject, and you should check out his posts. Schoolcraft has a unique way to deal with the flipper quarter, though... very surprising, but I'll never spill the details . And, I must say... I can't wait to get some Lassen stuff.... cannot wait! Platt, no the gravity flippers are a whole different tech than just a looser elastic. Most have an internal elastic that doesn't show on the rim. Worth taking
a look at the gaff makers sites and read up on the gravity flippers. |

Hi Platt,
As was mentioned earlier, all you need to do to convert any standard flipper into a gravity flipper is to change out the rubber band for a larger one with light elasticity. Yes, the band will be on the outer edge of the flipper but it is recessed and no one ever notices this anyway. Specifically for a half dollar size flipper you will want to use a 0.25 inch band with 2.5 oz of force. You can buy them Here or you can PM me and I can send you some so you won't have to buy 5,000 of them like I did! Credit for this goes to Ron Jaxon who I originally learned this from. Cheers! ** Bill ** |

Thanks Bill, but I'm afraid it's too late. I already put my order in at Tango.com. My son won't eat for another week and I'll have to prostitute my wife again, but it's okay. I'll have a gravity flipper. Live and learn.

Anyone know what size band for an Eisenhower dollar flipper to make it a gravity style?

Hi Guys,
Just to let you know, we make gravity Flippers in several different coins from Eisenhower Dollars, Morgan Dollars, standard Kennedy Half Dollars, Silver Kennedy, Walking Liberty, Several British Coins, Australian 20 cents and many others. We will also make a gravity flipper from your own coins at a price that excludes the cost of the coins. best regards jim |

Hi Chris,
I don't have an Eisenhower flipper to experiment with but my guess would be the same 0.25" band I mentioned for the half dollar may also work for the Eisenhower flipper. Due to the increased weight of the "trap door" on the Eisenhower coin you probably don't need a larger diameter band. My Lassen Gravity Flipper (Morgan) uses a 3/16" (i.e. 0.1875") band, but the Lassen mechanism is internal which slightly decreases the diameter of the band that is required. Experiment and let us know your results. Hope that helps! ** Bill ** Quote:

Jaw Products no longer handle LATEX bands. The non-latex bands are not satisfactory.
