Hi,
I would like to costruct a hollow round table with a magnet in the hollow portion. The table would be costructed of two thin laminates sandwiching the hollow space. In this space would be a magnet that could be moved to control an item on the table top. Has any one any experience with such a design? I am try to figure out practical ways to control the movement of the magnet. I have a couple of good ideas but they may be expensive, time consuming and/or a little noisy. If any one has tackled this before what did you come up with? Any advice appreciated. Regards Ian |

I would look at the old Dunninger device for the "bug" writer, it uses sliders on an x-y axis, withthe "bug" at the center crossing. Moving the wires moves the bug (rip open an old Etch-a-Sketch to see the mechanism in action!-or to find one!)

Parallax has a two axis stepper controller for a very reasonable price. It can also be battery powered and easily programmed. Check out the RF modulesa as well. You might be able to kncok togeter an 'Etch-A-Sketch' you can control from your pocket.
