I might be wrong, but my instinct is a lot of woman, in particular, might find this embarrassing or, even worse, humiliating. This goes for not only the object of your attention, but other woman in an audience witnessing this. Or I could be wrong. It would be interesting to get a female perspective on this. None of the people you specifically mentioned who complimented you, and few (if any) of the comments here have been from woman. I'm not sure that's completely incidental to the issue under discussion. No complaints about the "stunningly beautiful" comment. Particularly since you said it with puppy dog and averted eyes. I'm sure that made her day and I'd be surprised if you would find many woman that wouldn't enjoy hearing that. That's solidly in the realm of flirting (as opposed to leering) and I've been known to use that exact phrase myself when I'm trying to make an impression. By the way, completely agree, different material for different rooms. From my point of view, my reaction to this is based on the venue being YouTube, not the private or semi-private convention where this performance was taped. |

Is it me or are people becoming more prudish instead of easing up a bit more in this millennium?
This reminds me of another thread where I said a similar thing, but it will work here: "How dare you, Marc, make such a crude comment in such a wholesome place? Remember... it's Vegas... it's now a family oriented place. You should watch your comments in a place where gambling and prostitution are legal. You might offend the ears of all the addicted gamblers, booze hounds and hookers. Mind your manners!" Greg

Thanks Mark & Greg.. I'm glad you enjoyed it..
I think 'lane' is a gentleman and considers every possible reaction to a sentence or word. I have found that over the 16 years of doing this stuff both close up and on stage you can't please all of the people all of the time. I have a line in my show where I am less than complimentary about NLP, this will offend those that have spent money on courses and preaching the brilliant skills they have obtained etc. I can't cater to everyone. Amber had been on stage earlier that night, she was very confident so I knew she would be good on stage. Another performer earlier that night referred to a woman as possibly being a prostitute or 'hooker' she and the whole place erupted in laughter. When you have an audience like that you know how much you can say, what you say and how you say it. A straight mentalism act that night would have died. That crowd needed humor, a little cheek and fun. I cannot cater my act in Vegas for the Youtube audience, half of the youtube audience would want to know the method only to post it up on a dodgy webcam. I put it up on Youtube for my audience, mentalism friends and family etc who didn't see it live in Vegas. I have sealed two cabaret gigs from that footage with two very good clients for a good fee, so I guess they see the value in my performance. I have an Aunt who you could take to the finest restaurant, she could order the best thing on the menu, eat the finest food prepared by the finest chef and she would be the person who's only comment that night would be that there was too much lemon in her sparkling water. Everyone has an opinion. M

I've been out of the thread a few days and am a bit puzzled. I was there, as very few who have commented were. Everything in life, especially entertaining in general and mentalism in particular, relies on context. I am confident everyone there (everyone with a pulse anyway) had no problem with any of the give and take between Marc and the audience. He was a gentleman and if you haven't met him he is an instantly likeable guy, the audience reacted well to him (first 3 rows were laymen). Amber had been on stage previously and had been playing it up. She was also quite elegant and IMHO the prettiest lady there, so it is no surprise she was picked often. nuff said

Thanks guys. I think 'lane' in all fairness can only go by the clip on youtube and in some situations the 'ample chest' line would not be suitable. So he has a point certainly from his perspective.
Riley - It was good to meet you, although a little too brief as it was pretty manic over there.. Gerry - Thank you sir, it was a pleasure meeting you all in Vegas. despite the image of our art, we are actually a small group in the big scheme of things so meeting up with like minded souls is a pleasure. Deputy - Thank you Ryan, good to hear from you again. Have a good weekend gentleman. MS
