If anyone here is actually planning to build a cannon off from the speculation mentioned here.....good luck....it's my opinion that for safety reasons this really shouldn't be discussed...What amazes me is that on other parts of this forum there are ethics threads left and rights but when it comes to "mysteries of the circus" people are willing to spill and speculate.....This stunt can kill you and at the very least mame you...do not try this at home without proffessional training....I don't say this to be mean but.....somethings shouldn't be discussed here.....if you are indeed "with it" you shouldn't have to come here for the answers!!!!!

Yeah, none of us here are ever concerned with safety.

Why don't you read this before you spout things to people whom you have no affiliation with, nor understandings of what it is that we do.

Hey Nips, do me a favor, ask Harley if he knows me and see if I indeed have no affilliation to the biz..yes there's a disclaimer on this forum...but......so far I've seen several false explanations for this stunt here which can get someone killed really quick...even the real methodology can do a great job of kicking your @ss.....but let's continue on with this hypothetical journey and see where it leads!!!!

Nipps, to know as much about circus as Adam, you'd have to start now, and work it for the next 25 years. He knows his stuff, and he's good at it. Adam's also an excellent person. I've greatly enjoyed the times we've crossed paths.

Having first hand knowledge of the apparatus employed by Hugo
Zacchini (we were on the Frank Wyrth show, also Tom Packs
and Hubert Castle)I can state that it was NOT compressed air,
gunpowder,chemicals,springs,rubber bands,hydraulics or applied
leverage which propelled him from the cannon.
It was the necessity to make a living that made him fly.

I'm getting a lot of conflicting information here. I'm still hoping to locate someone who actually does this to talk to. Many thanks to all who have contributed.

petekoloz I really enjoyed your post

Hey, just because I have no idea who Adam is doesn't mean I don't have a right to object to his post, which in my opinion is a very negative towards this forum and its users... very disrespectful. I really don't care to know as much as Adam on any subject or spend decades doing something I don't want to do. Harley, you know that about me, I only aspire to be as much as I can be.

Adam, my apologies for thinking you a rube, I've simply NEVER heard of you.

You could try Pachelbel's Canon I hear it uses D Minor.

Ok .
I have never heard of the school either
( and I am a huge nerd, and Feld employe)
all cannon's are made/build by the people who shoot from them, plain and simple.
I love that you would want to learn this skill and if you are gung ho like you say you are Elvin is a great way to go.

If you are going to build you a cannon the cost would be over $100,000 usd.
that is being nice but you will go through a ton of trial and error.

that being said my friend Brian has one cannon for sale .
He is asking $40,000.

Ia Brian finally going to retire and go home to Peru with Tina and open up the cannonball Café? If so good for him, they're both great people...and Brian's parents are the sweetest!

Hello Larry:

I remember AIRIANA THE HUMAN ARROW around 1996. I can't recall which unit she was on, but she was shot from a huge CROSS BOW or a cannon with a fake cross bow attached to it. Anyway this looked like a special prop built by Ringlings. It was a beautiful act! Do you remember this act?

Prof. Pringle,

I remember it. You're correct - it was 1996 and that was Ringling Blue. Those specialty props, like the crossbow, are built by Hagenbeck & Wallace, a Ringling owned entity. Trivia: Awesome female juggler, Gena Shvartsman was also on the show.

Hey Thanks Cap'n Mike:
Yes, Gena looked to be around 12 years old, and her act was totally awesome. And Graham Chipperfield had the Big cats.

Happy Holidays Mike!!!!!!
