If it can prevent someone else from performing it, then we are doing a public service.

Eggs? Now that could be funny ... but only if you "accidentally" broke the egg at the end!

Ouch!!...pain full but he's still trying to look good on tv.
I've seen the same mistake in other video, why he risked his hand by not knowing well where the nail is. If I were him, I should know the nail position some how before I do it.

I think I've seen at least 2 other videos of guys messing up on that type of trick. I remember seeing one where the magician was using a broken bottle under a bag. He was bleeding all over the place.

This is the kind of tricks people doesn't like, because it impresses for the negative way! In my opinion, I prefer the tricks that impresses for the positive, gonna be good for all the public (kids, old people). Magic must be a breath of fresh air, making magic without scaring.
This is my opinion... Paulo |

One of the thing that irks me to NO END is seeing a Magician dumb down a show for kids. The name of my show is called Concentrated Insanity, and I would do it for children or for adults. The show doesn't change...just some of the humor. Kids are now exposed to more dangerous stuff on TV and Video Games. This is a MAGIC SHOW, PEOPLE!!!! Do your act, have a disclaimer that you're a professional and none of what you do should be done at home (do it at school...they have better nurses), and you're all set. It's all about RESPONSIBILITY!!! When I do my show, I rely on the PARENTS to supervise their kids after the show. I have performed roulette routines, the balloon swallow, razor blades, a SJ escape, fire eating/fire manipulation, etc., before an audience of kids. They love it. It's my job to perform an entertaining show...not to worry about some kid doing something stupid once I left. The same could be said of pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Let's say a kid sees you do this, and then goes home and tries to stuff a rabbit into a top hat only to produce it a few seconds later. During the process, the rabbit bites the kid and the kid has to go to the ER for shots and to get stitched up. Should the Magician be responsible b/c the kid was dumb enough to try something they didn't fully understand? Of course not! In the same turn, if a kid sees a TV Show where a person jumps off a bridge and lives and then the kid tries it and hurts himself or worse, should the TV show be held responsible? NO!!! It's the PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY to do their job as parents and watch their children. So, do your job. Do an entertaining show...but understand your props and how they work. The BEST roulette version on the market is Tetanus by Randi Rain. It's awesome, 100% full proof (safe), and it won't break the bank.

The possibility of failure like in the video is serious, and this is not the first I saw! Do not compare every illusion with danger possibility to exhibit same like that, NO! Some years ago in some hotel, there was a magician and he make all this kind of tricks. The manager of the Hotel finished with the contract. Every child was afraid of seeing this magician. When that happens, it's not fiction, it's real!! I think in USA, you can make everything... Paulo |

Lyle I have seen your website and read your other post. I can see how you could pull this type of trick off without a problem. If someone talks to you for a few min. or sees your site they are going to know that you act is going to be edgey, wild and full of surprises. That is probably why they book you. that's what they are looking for. But if your image is that of a "fluffy bunny" magician and the next thing you know you have little Johnnys neck in a stock and looking at him while holding a long sword I can see the knee jerk reaction of some parents. I wonder if asking the parents during the booking process if they mind this or that effect you would like to show would be the fix for this?

This brings up a great point that you should ONLY do magic that FITS YOU, YOUR STYLE, and YOUR CHARACTER! Just becuase you see a cool new piece of Shiney Magic that looks great online doesn't mean it will fit your show. Any trained idiot can go thru the motions of a trick...but an artist will know his limitations and not do magic that isn't becoming of them. When I get phone calls for bookings, I tell them right of the bat that "I'm not your average run of the mill Rabbit out of a Hat Magician." I tell them about my show without spoiling anything. It's RARE when someone says the show isn't for them...I can count the number of times that's happened on 1 hand! All I was trying to say is that Magicians have been doing Hippy Hop Rabbits and 20th Centry Silks now forever. Be an original thinker. Think outside the box! Take a risk if your personallity fits it.
