Heard of this guy Ross Jeffries, through friends who are Pick Up Artists (I know, sounds made up...)

Is there such a way to use it to attract the opposite sex?

Sounds too good to be true...

Two of the biggest skills a hypnotists develops are:

1) Rapport building
2) Being a master observer

Both those skills will serve you well with the opposite sex.

Salesman, ministers, politicians and con artist have been using hypnotic languages for years without calling it such - and big suprise, so have pickup artists.

I think it is. ( but then there are a few schools of thought around hypnosis depends which one you subscribe to)And Ross Jeffries stuff is very powerful and it works. Not only with women but in almost any walk of life.

Imagine if I really insulted you. You may have an uncontrollable urge to punch me or feeling of anger. that's an obvious unconscious response. Thaats what you are attempting to do by by learning these language patterns. trigger and amplify unconscious responses which we have no control over whether its sexual or whatever.

At least that's a big part of it.

Yeah but what I'm saying is hypnotic language (whilst used for hypnosis) is not hypnosis on its own. By that I mean if I ONLY use hypnosis language but have no hype/belief/pre-talk/physiological performance or the ability to t/modulate and emphasise the use of that language, then hypnosis won't occur.
AND I've got nearly 500 posts more than you mindpunisher.

Words induce hypnosis. I belive direct response copywriting is a form of hypnotic induction. Hypnosis isn't reserved only for the stage or therapy couch.

My new year resolution is to post less ....winding people up has a shelf life. Don't want to turn into a nice guy through boredom.

Pickup Artist certainly doesn't sound made up . . . there is a reality TV show on VH1 that features Mystery teaching his tricks-of-the-trade to newcomers that just finished its second season. In the first season, Mystery teaches a "seduction" technique that employs the classic finger-magnets suggestibility effect.

Ross has been around for some time and is the first person to teach the use of Neurolinguistic Programming techniques as applied specifically to the field of picking up women. Certainly, treatises on how to date or pickup have been around for centuries (Ovid had some advice and I used to have a "art of conversation" course in my library that was specifically designed for those wishing to learn the art of courting that was first published in the 1880's). Eric Webber is probably the modern father of the formal study of pickup but Ross is the one who made it an industry.

However, Ross is not teaching "hypnosis" per se, it's more influence and NLP to enhance your chances with women. Some of the folks in the current seduction community use NLP and hypnosis type effects but most work on other patterns and techniques. Ross definitely uses anchoring and rapport building and a whole slew of other stuff and some folks find his material to be very very effective. His old "patterns" that many folks memorize (stories that have embedded trance language intended to create a sense of connection and sexual desire) do indeed work when in the hands of a skilled practitioner rather than some goof reading lines but the trick it to make it your own and be natural and engaging.

Be sure to skip the hyperbole in the advertising copy for most seduction products or courses, they won't "get you laid in ten minutes" of meeting any woman but some of the skills might prove helpful in enhancing your social ability.

See http://www.briandavidphillips.com/traini......nce.html for more on this sort of material (yes, I am teaching a course that covers this very topic).

Of course, to keep it on topic, check out my upcoming show which is SEDUCTION MINDTRICKS, an adult comedy hypnosis performance that plays with some of these very concepts and ideas. See the promo at http://briandavidphillips.typepad.com/br......ndt.html Smile

I would just like to add that if you look at what any of the PUA teachers are sharing, one of the things they all have in common is the claim that this is a "numbers game." The more women a guy tries to pick up, the greater the likelihood that one will say yes. That reminds me of the story of a guy who every day would ask ten different women to have sex with him. He got slapped more than anybody around. But he also had sex with more women than anybody else.

To the best of my knowledge, there has never been any experimentation to indicate whether these PUA techniques are more effective than having a positive attitude, being honest, and actually listening to and responding to people you meet.

Many of the incredibly over-priced (IMO) books on this do provide a positive attitude to the person trying to pick up women, so in they they are helpful. They also give great opening lines and approaches, which the schlubs who buy the stuff can use to get past saying hello.

Some of the techniques I've seen are outright laughable in that theoretically they might work, but in actuality it is highly unlikely. They also ignore, or forget, one of the basic tenets of NLP, that if a person really doesn't want to do something, they're not going to. If you're 5' tall, weight 650 pounds, are covered with open sores, are broke and have no job, the likelihood of picking up women, even using the techniques in the books, is extremely slim.

On the other hand, if you're just shy, getting the positive self-image, opening lines, and the ability to listen to and respond to someone while maintaining a conversation may certainly increase the odds of accepting embedded commands. As has been pointed out above, it's not the copying of someone else's script, it's having the unconscious competence to use the concepts.

Reading a PUA book and thinking you're going to become a PUA makes money for the author, but is about as unlikely to be successful as reading a book on hypnosis from 1910 will make you a successful hypnotist.

I think there is a pretty strong arguement that because the fledgling PUA gets his head round some techniques, this gives him the confidence to go up and approach people and of course sometimes this then leads to a conversation and beyond.

Whether it is the technique or the confidence to have a go because he had a technique to use that helped is questionable.

The same applies to the fledgling hypnotist.

Best technique in the world is of course tell them you are a hypnotist. That applies to fledgling PUA and hypnotists Smile

Ive proved it to myself on many occasions that Ross's material works. And works fast. It IS HYPNOSIS. hose that say it isn't should actually spend some time learning and trying it out.

The reason I say this is because I think you are missing out a powerful part to your education as a hypnotist. And a really strong understanding of language and "everyday trance".

NLP IS HYPNOSIS. The term was originally coined because it was illegal to practice hypnosis without a medical license where Bandler started out. It was created by studying Milton Erickson.

Jeffrie's techniques are based upon leading a female through a sequence of states to get her to the place where she wants you..
I went through a phase many years ago and created some of my own material. It does work without a doubt. Ive also used similar techniques with sales people taking people to the buying state. And had some great results.

It all works to a degree. Infact it can be quite scary how well it works sometimes..

I would recommend you study Jeffries material for the sake of completion around hypnosis.

Bandler and Grinder created NLP only partially based on Milton Erickson. The other major sources were Fritz Pearls and Virginia Satir. It was not created only by studying Milton Erickson. You're wrong.

It was called neuro-linguistic programming because Grinder was a linguist and he, and NLP, focused on language, neurology, and because programming was popular. You're wrong.

If a person doesn't want to sit through being led through a sequence of states, it doesn't matter what you know or how well you know it. She's leaving and you're a loser with her. Even Jeffries admits it's a numbers game. You fail with one, try another. Sooner or later you'll get someone who is drunk enough to go on with your folderol.

You're falsely assuming that people with hundreds of hours of training and experience--some even authors of books and instructors--have missed out "out a powerful part to your education as a hypnotist." That's not only false, but it's incredibly egotistical on your part (indicating to me that you either haven't been trained in NLP or you didn't understand what you learned) as well as insulting to some great people.

You say what Jeffries teaches is hypnosis, but in this thread you haven't defined hypnosis, so your statement is meaningless. You might as well have said that he teaches blue fish.

NLP works. Not to a degree. It works. It works when you're trained and know how to use it. It works when you realize the responsibility you gain for having the skills. If it only works for you to a degree, you don't understand it.

I have no doubt, however, that it has worked for you. All of that information gave you a positive self image. If you are honest and both listen and respond to the woman you're hitting on, you will have at least as much or more success.

But mindpunisher, if you want to think it works for you according to what Jeffries says, and not that reality, that's great. Use it whenever you can.

SOME of Ross's stuff is hypnosis . . . his inner game work relies upon it. However, not all of it is hypnosis or even NLP. I do believe the numbers game metaphor applies (I use the Ugly George example for that) BUT I have found that most folks do increase their numbers effectiveness by using certain techniques. NOT all seduction material is aimed at misleading folks. Most of the reputable teachers (and there are indeed a few) stress being honest and forthright but they also help folks learn simple skills like rapport-building, approaching, and more.

All the best,

Well I give up trying to encourage you all. You are missing something powerful...

Ive used some of Ross's stuff to makes thousands of pounds for my clients in increased sales. Or at least adapted from his stuff.

Everything is a numbers game. Its just that the numbers become much lower with the better you get using suggestion. Its all about bypassing conscious resistance and evoking unconscious reactions while leading a person through a sequence of states.

NLP doesn't work all the time. It is only a term now mainly used to milk money from those eager to buy certificates. Ive practiced it for over 20 years. And created a lot of my own processes. Ive had some incredible results and I do mean incredible using "hypnosis". Its all hypnosis at the end of the day. To say it isn't is a clear sign you don't really understand what your talking about. Or are limited by the models you subscribe to.

Its obvious that none of you have really experimented to any depth with above stuff.

Personally I don't use it with women at least not consciously since it will back fire if used manipulatively. And there is nothing worse than a nutjob stalker.

Brian - Nothing is misleading it is the intent that determines whether it is or not.

This thread isn't about defining hypnosis. And Im not here to educate you. I charge for that.

Mindpunisher, I once knew a guy very much like you. He claimed to know everything and everyone else was wrong. He claimed to have made lots of money but was always broke. He claimed to be an expert, but when his claims of knowledge were examined, it turns out he made error after error and false statement after false statement, For example, he had a terrible stutter. He read a bit about NLP and tried some aspect of it on himself for stuttering and failed because he didn't know enough. As a result, rather than admit his incompetence and actually train in NLP, he claimed that NLP didn't work for stuttering and that if NLP worked, it only worked part time.

Well, eventually, the few people who were his friends started talking about him behind his back, calling him a self-centered egomaniacal, know-it-all. Eventually, all of his friends drifted away and all he did was make posts on the usenet where people with even less knowledge than did actually paid attention to his ramblings.

Apparently, mindpunisher, all of your experience with NLP didn't teach you how to come up with a good metaphor. And with all your finger pointing at the poor people here who, without so much as asking, you have presumed you need to "encourage," with all your finger pointing at people who have taught thousands and who have published highly respected books, with all of your self-proclaimed superior knowledge, you don't see that what you point at others you have three fingers pointing back at yourself.
