Hey ya'll a buddy of mine recently wrote a movie script for a Houdini movie that was recently looked at by a Hollywood producer who also performs a little magic. The producer liked it by wants/ needs support from the magician community on it. Where could I go on the Café to ask some people who might be interested in it to make it produced???
If you know of anyone right off the bat, contact him at polarphant@gmail.com. My buddy's name is Nick. It has already with the writers guild and copyrighted, too. Thanks, Matt

Congrats to your friend for the script but I'm not sure what you are asking. Does your friend need support, does the producer want to know magicians care about Houdini, or is he looking for a producer?

Um, when I was on the phone with him it came across more as a sales pitch looking for people to support it financially since the producer can only do so much...as well as maybe spreading the news to get magician interest in it as well as a studio.

I'm a failed Harry Loryne student when it comes to names but Damien Neuman I think is the guy who made Shade. There is an article about how he went about making his movie in Genii Magazine a couple years ago.
To be honest with you if they want to make the movie they'll make the movie and try to make money off it not trying to find others to just give up money seems odd to me but I know absolutely nothing about the subject. He should hire an agent to sell the script but to be straight with you, I've hard more garbage about 'Houdini' films coming out with various actors at the helm and I don't think there is interest for theater release. |

Yep, I was going to say Damian too. He's a member here and his name is DNShade.

I fogot to add he's a super nice guy. Of course, when I met him I was just gushing about Shade and his wicked chops. He MAY be different when it comes to business mode.

I would guess that after the failure of Gillian Armstrong’s DEATH DEFYING ACTS (estimated budget $20,000,000US. Made $3,561 on it’s opening weekend and was pulled) earlier this year it, would be a hard sell to get anyone in Hollywood to be interested in another Houdini movie. Any movie about any magician would be a hard sell right now.
THE PRESTIGE cost about $40,000,000US to make and only took in $56,000,000US. After marketing, that would be a loss. THE ILLUSIONIST is said to have had a budget of $16.5 million and took in $39.8. After marketing, a small win. NEXT, the Nic Cage yawner, had a $70,000,000 budget and took in just under $18 million at the box office. You didn’t need to be a mentalist to see that crash coming. Woody Allen’s SCOOP was made for his traditional $4 million and took back over $10 with no marketing. Maybe the best money maker %wise out of them all, but hardly a ‘magician’s movie’. Now, if the Houdini Broadway show is a hit, all that will change of course and there will be four or five Houdini projects that get the green light and one that will actually get made, but more than likely it’ll star someone like Ben Stiller or Will Ferrell, and after failing to make back half it’s budget; we’ll all go rent the Tony Curtis Houdini movie and wonder why they don’t make them like that any more (or at least the one that Hutch from Starsky and Hutch made).
If you are not cheating, you are only cheating yourself.

From what I understand 75% of the shows on Broadway are going dark, why would anyone open a new one at this time?
